Sanusi Warns Traditional Heads Against Drugs Abuse

Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II, has cautioned the district heads and traditional title holders against drugs abuse.

“Henceforth, Kano emirate appoints no other person unless he presented clean bill of mental health, while those in positions will undergo mental health screening “, he warned yesterday.

Addressing the district heads of the entire 44 local government areas in Kano, among other traditional title holders, at the Africa House, Government House, Kano,Emir Sanusi II, advised the traditional leaders to shun drugs and maintain good conduct.

According to him, it will be an awkward situation if government would be fighting drug abuse among young men and women, while community leaders are involved in the same social ill.

Emir Sanusi urged the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to explore all avenues in fishing out those abusing drugs and to do more extra work to check it among leaders of the people.

Sanusi II, listed drugs and substances abuse as rampant among traditional leaders in the State. He listed Indian hemp, codeine syrup, beer among others were among the drugs abused by the traditional heads.

Disturbed by the development, Emir Sanusi pledged to go round the offices of the district heads of 44 local government areas in the State, starting with Danbatta local government area yesterday, where the most elderly traditional title holder is in charge, in person of Sarkin Bai, Mukhtar Adnan.

The emir asked the State government to rebuilt the houses of the district heads at various local governments, for them to be able to function effectively.

Meanwhile, the childhood friend of late Kano emir, Ado Bayero and historian to Kano emirate, Emeritus Professor, Dahiru Yahaya enlightened the gathering that the position of ‘Galadima’ regarded as the highest in the hierarchy in Kano emirate is less of value to the position of ‘Dan-Rimi’.

Emeritus Professor, Yahya drew the attention of the traditional title holders to acquaint themselves with history and patterns in the most reverred traditional authority of Kano.
