Longest serving Igwe in Africa marks 90th birthday, 52yrs on throne

Nnewi—Nnewi community in and outside Nigeria alongside friends and  well-wishers, yesterday, celebrated their traditional ruler and longest serving traditional ruler in Africa, Igwe Kenneth Orizu 111, who observed his 90th birthday and 52nd year on the throne which, according to records, made him the longest serving monarch in Nigeria and the whole of Africa.

As early as 6.00a.m., canon shots heralded the Ofala festival, which was followed by an inter-denominational service, which he dedicated to the victims of the recent gas plant fire incident that took the lives of many people, last Thursday.

Officiating during the church service at the Palace of Igwe Orizu III, Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev.  Godwin Okpala, called for a minute of silence in honour of the fire victims.
