Buhari should give way to a younger man in 2019, he’s too old to rule – Bishop Okah

Buhari should give way to a younger man in 2019, he’s too old to rule – Bishop Okah

Muhammadu Buhari

The principal patriarch of the Flock of Christ Mission, Enerhen-Effurun, Delta State, Bishop Simeon Okah, has said it would be ridiculous to hear that President Muhammadu Buhari was preparing to take another shot at the presidency in 2019.

Okah urged him to abandon the ambition because he was too old and had nothing to offer the country, describing him as the most unfavourable Nigerian President to the people of Niger Delta region.

The Vice President, VP, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, South-South region, said this in a chat with Vanguard.

Visit us at Uju Ayalogu's Blog

He said, “The man is an old man, old man is old, I am quite younger than he is. I am 64 years old, do you know that without the younger ones around me, there are some things about this generation that I cannot on my own understand because their way of thinking is very different from my way of thinking, not to talk of a man like Buhari?

“First, Buhari is too old, secondly, he is not educated enough. It pains my heart that just because former President Goodluck Jonathan is from South-South, there was a general hatred against him by the north and maybe the west.

“We, who travel, they were telling us that we were blessed to have a man who has PhD as a president, what does Buhari have apart from him being a general?”

Okah recalled his colleague in the ministry, Rev Ejike Mbaka, saying Buhari was a liberator of Nigerians, but he retorted saying, “Well, facts speak for themselves. What has he liberated, is it the economy, what? So when you say he is a liberator, what has he liberated?

“Rather, he has worsened the state of everything in this country; he took over government when naira was between 170 and 190 to a dollar but today how much is it?

“When he was campaigning, he said he would make one naira to one dollar, but what is the position today, the man has destroyed almost everything he met, everything Jonathan labored for. Everything is nose-diving in the country.

“Look at the stock exchange. He inherited a stock exchange of over N13 trillion. Today, it is about N8 to N9 trillion. What happened to N4 trillion?

“It is people’s money, so to me, this government, particularly, in my own sense of judgment, there are too many lies and lies go with depression and depression goes with oppression.

“People who are supposed to invest are asking questions, where are the blueprints for his economic programme.? Almost two years are gone, nothing. This is the very first time in our history that it took a president, who won an election over six months to appoint ministers.

“And the people he appointed are the same corrupt people, who had to cross-carpet from PDP to APC; we thought he was going to bring angels from the moon the way he initially spoke about people that would make his cabinet, but finally, they were the same people that we knew in this country.

“As a man from South-South, I feel very bad the way we have been treated. Look at the oil blocks too, how many belong to people from the South-South? in the first place, why should the Nigerian government consider giving oil blocks to individuals instead of state government?

“Why should such huge amount of money go into hands of very few individuals? If we want to build a nation, these are questions that we need to ask,” the Bishop stated.

The tweets have since been deleted.

In an earlier tweet, Jibrin also hinted that Senate president Bukola Saraki may have finally found favour with President Muhammadu Buhari after working hard for it for so long.

In the tweet on Saturday, Jibrin noted that Saraki appears to have dethroned his (Jibrin’s) own leader as a member of the House of Representatives, Speaker Yakubu Dogara in the president’s inner circle.

Although he did not reveal what exactly prompted his words, Jibrin tweeted the words just after the presidency denied reports alleging that President Buhari had removed acting EFCC chairman Ibrahim Magu.

Merkel: Islamist terror is ‘greatest threat’ to Germany

Merkel: Islamist terror is ‘greatest threat’ to Germany

Chancellor Angela Merkel

Islamist terrorism is the biggest challenge facing Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel has said in her New Year message.

Referring to the deadly truck attack in Berlin by a Tunisian asylum seeker, she said it was “sickening” when acts of terror were carried out by people who had sought protection.

She said 2016 had been a year of “severe tests”.

But she also said she was confident Germany could overcome them.

“As we go about our lives and our work, we are saying to the terrorists: ‘You are hate-filled murderers, but you do not determine how we live and want to live. We are free, considerate and open’,” Mrs Merkel said.

Visit us at Uju Ayalogu's Blog

Twelve people were killed when Anis Amri drove a truck at crowds at a Berlin Christmas market two weeks ago.

Earlier in the year, a teenage Afghan refugee wounded five people in an axe attack on a train in Wuerzburg and a Syrian whose asylum application had been refused blew himself up outside a bar in Ansbach, wounding 15 other people.

The attacks have led to some criticism of Mrs Merkel’s policy of admitting more than a million refugees and migrants last year.

But in her New Year message the chancellor said images of the devastation in the Syrian city of Aleppo, where Syrian government forces have forced out rebels after months of fighting, showed how “important and right” it was for Germany to take in those fleeing the conflict.

“All this is reflected in our democracy, rule of law and values. They are the opposite of the hate-filled world of terrorism and will prove stronger than it. Together we are stronger. Our state is stronger,” she said.

Mrs Merkel also denounced “distortions” that were leading people to believe that the EU and even parliamentary democracy were no longer working, reports the BBC.

The EU was “slow and difficult”, had suffered a blow with the United Kingdom’s vote to leave and should focus on the things it “really can do better than the nation state”, she said.

“But no – we Germans should never be deceived into thinking that a happy future could ever lie in going it alone nationally,” she added.

Mrs Merkel is seeking a fourth term as chancellor in an election expected in September and has already said that she expects her toughest campaign yet.

A staunch Ibori supporter, Senator Nwaoboshi is under investigation after visiting the ex-Delta governor.

Sahara Reporters reports that Sen. Nwaoboshi is currently being investigated for reportedly converting a federal property in Apapa, Lagos state to his personal use.

The development comes just days after Nwaoboshi travelled to London to visit Ibori who was recently released from a prison in the United Kingdom.

Nwaoboshi recently reportedly claimed that Ibori held so much power even while serving a 13-year sentence in the UK. He reportedly claimed that Ibori made him a senator, made his daughter a state house of assembly member and anointed two governors in the state.

Nwaoboshi also claimed that Ibori gave political assistance to Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

Meanwhile, Godknows Igali, a former permanent secretary in the ministry of power, has been accused of misappropriation of government funds by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Igali was discovered by the EFCC to have reportedly spent N1.5billion to buy vehicles that were used for former president Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organisation.

Court Orders Commissioner of Police to Arrest 'Yahoo-Yahoo' Oluwo of Iwo

Court Orders Commissioner of Police to Arrest 'Yahoo-Yahoo' Oluwo of Iwo

Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi

A traditional ruler who was accused of engaging in internet fraud is set to be arrested by the commissioner of police following a court order.

Visit us at Uju Ayalogu's Blog

A magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has ordered the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, to arrest the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, and bring him to court on January 6, 2017.

The magistrate, Olusola Aluko, gave the fresh order on Friday when the case involving the monarch came up for hearing again.

He said he was surprised that the police commissioner had not arrested Oluwo since he first issued the bench warrant of arrest against the first class monarch.

Aluko expressed dismay that the police commissioner had not effected the bench warrant of arrest he had issued against the monarch, which he said he had signed and handed over to an officer of the state police command.

He said, “I am baffled that the commissioner of police has not done his duty.
I am also surprised by his claim that he was unaware of the bench warrant. That must be a joke of the century. I, therefore, order him to immediately arrest the respondent.

“I am not joking with my order. He (Akanbi) should be arrested and brought to this court on Friday, January 6, 2017. The sanctity of the judiciary must be protected.”

Aluko stated that the case instituted by the Oluwo Oke of Iwo Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye, against Akanbi before his court was not a chieftaincy case but a criminal one.

Visit us at Uju Ayalogu's Blog

He said, “I will like to say that the matter before me was filed based on sections 35, 37 and 38 of the criminal procedures of Osun State.

“In a criminal case such as this, a defendant must appear in court. This court is not trying a chieftaincy matter. It is the law that once an order is made, to prevent anarchy, such an order must be obeyed.

“It is to be noted that an order was first made by my brother, Magistrate Omisade of Iwo jurisdiction before the case was transferred here by fiat and I had asked him (Akanbi) three times to appear before this court.”

It will be recalled that the magistrate had on December 2 threatened to issue a bench warrant against the Oluwo if he failed to appear before him on December 20, but the monarch failed to appear before the court.

The magistrate then issued a bench warrant against the monarch on December 20 but the monarch allegedly said he would not appear before the magistrate.

Aluko had also issued a fresh bench warrant against the monarch on Wednesday for contempt of court but the monarch still did not appear on Friday.

The Oluwo had earlier told a Punch correspondent in an interview that he would not appear before the magistrate, but subsequent efforts to get his reaction to the fresh order of arrest were not successful as calls put across to his telephone did not connect.

The police commissioner, when contacted on the telephone by a correspondent after the fresh court order, said he was not aware of it.

Pastor's Wife 'Speaks From Grave' 10 months After Death In Ogun, Says Her Husband's House Possessed By Evil Spirit

Omolade Omoniyi
Omolade Omoniyi When She Was healthy

Punch Newspaper - A 42-year-old woman, Omolade Omoniyi, who is now late, has revealed in a video released by her family how she believed the house of her husband, a pastor with the Christ Apostolic Church, Onigbogbo, Atan Ota, Ogun State, Pastor Olusegun Omoniyi, was bewitched, making her sick till she died.

The release of the video is coming more than 10 months after she died following what her family termed “mysterious attacks” which had forced her to flee her matrimonial home.

The deceased woman’s family told Saturday PUNCH that the video, which is one of many that were recorded few days before Omolade died, was shot in order to get her personal accounts on record.

“Please for God’s sake, don’t let me die. Take me to wherever you know I will get help.  I have been calling you (her husband), but you ignored my calls.

Everybody help me to beg him. I have taken three pints of blood, but I excreted them all away. Help me, I don’t want to die,” she said in one part of the video.

She reportedly died the following day after that particular video.

The video clip, which also captured the final moments of Omolade on the sick bed at the Safeway Hospital, Sango, where she was receiving treatment, showed the 42-year-old begging her husband for a solution to her predicament.

The PUNCH had reported how Olusegun lamented that he was abducted from church by some OPC members, who were allegedly hired by members of his wife’s family.

Visit us at Uju Ayalogu's Blog

He had said after being tortured and blindfolded, he was taken to a hideout where his estranged wife was being treated for a strange illness he claimed struck her seven months after she left their matrimonial home.

The cleric said he was made to clean his wife’s faeces on the hospital bed and beaten until the police came to his rescue.

He also alleged that a day after his wife died, he was attacked again and forced to sleep on the corpse.

Olusegun had told our correspondent that his late wife separated from him and took away all her property over their childlessness despite being married for 16 years.

He also accused his wife’s family of being the brains behind the trouble in their union.

The late wife’s family had declined comment at the time, but last week Saturday, during a chat with our correspondent, Omolade’s family showed our correspondent few recorded interview sessions they had with her before her demise.

Responding to a question on why she left her matrimonial home, Omolade explained that she was a proprietress of a school in the Alaba area, where she stayed from Monday to Friday to ease transport cost.
She said she always returned home for the weekend.

She said, “I, however, observed that anytime I go home for weekend, I get sick. The sickness would continue till Monday when I have to leave for work. Once I step out of the house for work, I would be relieved. This had happened many times.

“On a particular weekend that I was supposed to return home, I decided to stay back at school and see if I would fall sick again. Surprisingly, nothing happened to me.

“I then called my husband’s attention to it. I begged him that he should find a solution to the problem, but he said he was praying for me and all would be well. At another time, he dismissed it and said I was lying.”

Omolade said few weeks later, her husband called and apologised to her for not caring about her health, promising to change.

She explained that the following week Friday, she was returning from work when she felt a sharp pain in the neck as she approached home.

“By Saturday morning, my condition had become worse and I could not eat. On Sunday morning, when some people brought church’s instruments, I suddenly collapsed.

I was revived and I put myself together, wore my clothes and entered the church so that our members would not be wondering why I didn’t attend Sunday service.

“After the service, I went on a visit to a church elder’s wife. As soon as I got to their house, I became relieved,” she added.

The deceased said in the video that the church elder’s wife queried her for moving her things from the house, saying Olusegun reported her to the family.

She denied packing out of the house, saying she always took the plates and clothes she would use during her stay at the school.

“Why will I divorce my husband after all our struggles together to the point of building our own house and after all my contributions? I told her the only issue we had was my husband’s uncaring attitude, especially when I became sick.  He would sometime say I was lying. Whereas, if he was the one that was sick, I could kill myself over his health.

“There was a time he was sick and things were hard for us.  I had to go under the bridge at Sango to beg people for money, just to raise money for his medications. But in my case, he never cared about me and this was what happened when we lost two children in a single day,” she added.

She said after another attack on a Friday, a friend at her school advised her to leave the house for the meantime.

Omolade said she left the house with a lump in her breast, which she developed after another attack.

She said after leaving the house for the school, her husband started shunning her calls and at a point, stopped taking the calls, querying her for leaving the house.

The last moment of Omolade captured in another clip, showed her appealing to her husband in the presence of some family members, friends and a doctor.

Olusegun had been “forced” into the hospital to see his wife on the day.
Pastor Stephen Oyesola, the younger brother of the deceased, who forced Olusegun to the hospital, denied hiring OPC members.

He said, “Nobody kidnapped or abducted him. On January 7, we invited him to come and see his wife, but he refused. On February 4, the supreme council of CAC and top CAC elders at Ibadan mediated and asked him to take care of the sick woman so that she would not die. He also refused.

“I was later called to donate blood for my sister, which I did. But she excreted it. She was in pain and was crying that she wanted to see her husband.

“A brother, two friends and myself, went to bring him from the house. We never used any OPC member and we never beat or tortured him. By this time, my sister’s stomach, legs and hands were swollen. The police later came in to take him away. My sister died 12am the following day.”

Stephen added that during the plan for his sister’s burial, the family was surprised when Olusegun’s insisted she would not be buried on the land they alleged co-owned.

He said after much argument, the pastor agreed after saying she contributed only N50,000 to the land.

“We were in a vehicle en route to the place at Atan Ota, when he started making a fake call for people to dig the grave. We had not gone far when the police came again and removed him from our midst. We had to abort the burial plan because it was already late,” he added.

He said the corpse was later deposited in a mortuary and buried at the Itele cemetery the following day.

The eldest brother of the deceased, Pastor Amos Oyesola, lamented that he made many efforts to reconcile the couple, saying Olusegun rebuffed all of them.

He also denied that the family encouraged the separation between the couple.
Amos also said nobody gave the family any money for the treatment of the deceased before she gave up.

“And how can he say we tortured him? If he was indeed beaten and tortured a day to the death of his wife, how would he be able to come for the burial planning? He used the police to arrest one of those treating his wife, but when we got there and explained to them, they understood it was a family affair,” he added.

When our correspondent reached out to Olusegun on the video concerning his late wife, he denied that she was ever sick in his house.

He said, “My wife was never sick in my house. Actually, for the past three years, she had a painless lump on her breast. She was fine and did all her normal work. I, however, suggested to her to go to the hospital concerning the lump so it could be removed, but she said since it was not paining her, I should leave it.

I also called one of her relatives in Owo, who said I was being heartless for wanting them to remove the lump, which had been there for three years. I then stopped talking about it.

“I had gone for a pastors’ conference when she brought some of her relatives to the house. They broke down the door and took away all her property. She later told me her relatives advised her to abandon me over our childlessness.

“I was not the one that was not reachable on the phone, it was she. At a point, nobody even knew her location. When I was called that she was sick, I was surprised and couldn’t believe it.”

Olusegun, who insisted that he was tortured by his wife’s relatives until he was rescued by the police, showed copies of his medical report.

A report from the General Hospital, Sango-Ota, issued on February 8, 2016 by one Dr. Oyejoko S.A., said, “Case of gang beating and blunt injuries.”

The outpatient card read, “Was beaten thoroughly by a group of people. He sustained multiple injuries.”

Also SEIZED From The WICKED Perm Sec.; 7 More Assorted Luxury Cars, 100 Motorcycles Bought For Jonathan's Campaign From Dead Workers Benefits

Godknows Igali

Apart from the 40 SUVs reportedly seized from a retired minister of Power, Mr. Godknows Igali, it was revealed yesterday that the 7 more of sort cars and 100 motorcycles were also seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently recovered from him, report acording to The Nation Newspaper suggests

All the vehicles reportedly bought for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign in the 2015 general election.

The sum of N1.5 billion with which the vehicles were acquired was allegedly sourced from the diverted N27 billion insurance premium of deceased workers of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

All the vehicles were said to have been paid for by the former Permanent Secretary, Dr. Godknows Igali, to aid the campaign efforts of the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation in the build-up to the presidential election.

The EFCC was said to have intercepted the vehicles and motorcycles after an alarm was raised by an artisan.

An EFCC source said yesterday that there was “overwhelming evidence” against the former Perm Sec.

Another source, who spoke in confidence, said the 47 vehicles were seized from some secret locations where Igali had kept them.

More than 100 motorcycles parked at a facility in Mabushi Area of Abuja were also confiscated by the EFCC.

The confiscated items include SUVs, Toyota Coaster buses, Toyota Hilux trucks and 16-seater buses.

The source said: “Igali had allegedly secured the hefty heist in well-guarded premises in an upscale neighbourhood of Abuja.

“But luck ran out on him when an artisan called to fix a faulty utility vehicle became curious over the avalanche of the state of the art vehicles parked in the premises and tipped off the EFCC.

“The commission immediately commenced discreet investigation.

“In the course of investigation, it discovered that all the vehicles were supplied by Dilly Motors at the instance of Igali.”

The source claimed that about N1.5 billion paid for the vehicles was allegedly sourced from the diverted N27 billion insurance premium of deceased workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The cash was allegedly laundered by Igali through Baseworth Insurance Brokers in order to cover his track.

The source added: “It was initially difficult to determine the source of the funds with which the vehicles were purchased as it did not come directly from Igali’s account.

“But a breakthrough came as the EFCC stumbled on evidence of a curious payment to Dilly Motors from the account of Baseworth Insurance Brokers Limited, a company that was under investigation in another case of alleged diversion of N27 billion insurance premium of deceased staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria.

“In one of the transfers, N300 million was paid to Dilly Moors from the account of Baseworth Insurance Brokers.

“Operatives of the Commission were curious to determine the service which Dilly Motors rendered to Baseworth Insurance Brokers to warrant payment.

“Dilly Motors, on interrogation, allegedly admitted that the N300 million was part of the N1.5 billion paid by Igali for the purchase of vehicles for the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation to prosecute the 2015 general election.

“Igali was earlier this year arrested by the Commission and made a statement after which he was released on administrative bail.”

At press time, it was learnt that the EFCC was finalising plans to arraign Igali in court.

A top EFCC source said: “We have substantial evidence against Igali. He is going to face trial any moment from now.

“In profiling Igali, our detectives discovered that he is a kinsman of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and he assisted the Gooodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation with vehicles by diverting public funds for such illegality.

“Actually, Igali had made useful statement and our detectives have spent the last five to six months to conduct diligent investigation.

“There is a prima facie case against him. It is left for the ex-Permanent Secretary to prove his innocence in court.”

The Nation had exclusively reported on October 10 that the EFCC had frozen N6,811,846,443.05 in the accounts of some companies belonging to a cousin to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd.

The frozen cash was part of the N27,188,232,208.20 benefits of the deceased employees of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), which were diverted.

Out of the amount, the sum of N951,637,223 only deducted FIRS VAT and WHY was paid through Diamond Bank and UBA Plc for direct credit to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

About N26,236,594,986 was looted by some top officials of the former Jonathan government, including the purchase of vehicles for the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation.

These highlights were contained in the report of EFCC on the diversion of the benefits of dead PHCN workers.

The EFCC said in part: “Sometimes in 2014, above named (names withheld) conspired amongst themselves and used Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd to divert N27,188,232,208.20 from the Federal Government of Nigeria through the BPE.

“The said account was originally approved to be released to Great Nigeria Insurance Plc (GNIP) as Group Premium Insurance (death and accident) claim to the next of kin of ex-PHCN staff who died in service and those that suffered incapacitation from accidents.

“Both covert and overt investigation aimed at determining the veracity of the information was discretely carried out into the Insurance Brokers Ltd domiciled with Skye Bank, Unity Bank and Keystone Bank.

“Efforts were also made to locate, identify and profile the operation of the company at both their Kaduna and Lagos offices.

The totality of these efforts led to the following findings:

“That the FGN decided to privatise the PHCN through BPE. The proceeds from sales were remitted to the OAGF.

“That the Federal Ministry of Power and the Federal Ministry of Labour in a bid to resolve a dispute emanating from the staff of the PHCN over unpaid insurance claims diverted the matter to BPE who advised that the claim be paid from the proceeds of the privatised PHCN.”

The EFCC gave the details of how the fraud was perpetrated by convincing the National Council on Privatization (NCP) to approve the disbursement of the funds.

The report added: “That the National Council on Privatization (NCP) during its third meeting held on 4th August 2014, amongst others, recommended the release of N27,188,232,208.20 to Great Nigeria Insurance Plc as settlement of insurance claim which the President approved.

“Based on the above, on the 10th December 2014, the sum of N26,236,594,986 was released to Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd of J415 Ibadan Street, Kabba road, Kaduna .

“The principal proprietor of the company is yet to be arrested and the sum of N951,637,223 only deducted FIRS VAT and WHY was paid through Diamond Bank and UBA Plc for direct credit to FIRS.”

The EFCC said it has frozen about N6.8 billion in more than nine accounts and seized a N585 million property from a former Chief of Staff.

It said: “Bestworth Insurance Brokers Limited maintains a corporate standard current Ac No. 1771645118 with Skye Bank Plc; Ac No. 0025251085; 0025860162; 0025872242 with Unity Bank and Ac. No 1040199787, 10052599665, 05102001142, 107102000361; 10440359482 with Keystone Bank Plc. An order has been obtained from a court of competent jurisdiction to freeze these accounts to aid recovery.

Visit us at Uju Ayalogu's Blog

“Further investigation disclosed that the insurance broker distributed these funds to various companies including a company controlled by a cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan into whose account the sum of N2.5 billion was paid.

“This Commission has traced and frozen the sum of N2 billion in the accounts at S/No (f) above in a related case being investigated involving the company while the suspect was charged to court.

“Similarly, the sum of N1 billion paid in four instalments was traced to Kebna Studios and Communication Nigeria Ltd controlled by a former DG of BPE.

“The sum of N300 million was equally traced to Dilly Motors Ltd who produced documents that indicated delivery of vehicles to the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation worth more than N1.5 billion and that part of these included the said money traced to the company.

“Investigation has established a direct link between the recovered vehicles and the N300 million paid to Dilly Motors Ltd.

“Meanwhile, a credit balance of N2,004,846,443.05 traced to Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd Skye Bank Acct No: 17711645118 has been frozen. Forfeiture proceedings shall be initiated for the purpose of full recovery.

“Other transfers made to accounts of Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd domiciled with Unity Bank Plc were also traced and the sum of N2,507,000,00 found in the accounts were frozen for possible recovery.
“The investigation is yet to be concluded.

“The development is however worrisome as persons entrusted with the keys to the nation’s treasury conspired amongst themselves to loot hapless citizens and the families of the deceased employees of PHCN of their much needed benefits.”

I'll Do Again 2 Things That Made Them Overthrew Me In 1985 - Buhari Drops New Year BOMBSHELL

I'll Do Again 2 Things That Made Them Overthrew Me In 1985 - Buhari Drops New Year BOMBSHELL

Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has restated his resolve to oppose the devaluation of the naira and increase in fuel price.

According to TheCable, the president stated his resolve in Abuja on Friday night at the 2016 regimental dinner organised by the presidential brigade of guards.

The annual event is organised to mark the end of drilling year of the commission – and it is also an opportunity for officers to “mingle” with their commanders.‎

Buhari said that his stance against the devaluation of the naira and fuel price increase precipitated his overthrow as military head of state in 1985.

“I have resisted the devaluation of the naira, increase of the petroleum products, among others,” he told the soldiers and officers.

“When I was military head of state, I rejected similar advice by the IMF and World Bank to devalue the naira.

“I refused and gave my reasons and the next thing I knew I was removed and detained for three and a half years.

“As a civilian president, I will do my best and I’m telling you all these because you are part of the leadership of this great country and God willing we will remain great,” he added.

At present, the official exchange rate of the naira is N300/$1, while it is N495/$1 at the black market. It was officially N197/$1 when Buhari assumed office in May 2015.

The pump price of petrol was N86.50 and has increased to N145.

Buhari Reportedly Removes Ibrahim Magu as EFCC Boss

Ibrahim Magu

President Buhari has reportedly sanctioned the removal of Ibrahim Magu as the head of the premier anti-graft body following the furore of non-approval by the senate.

Visit us at Uju Ayalogu's Blog

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, may have finally been removed from office.

A source close to The Guardian said his redeployment back to Nigerian Police Force (NPF) was to pave way for a fresh person to be presented by President Muhammadu Buhari as the nominee to head the anti-graft agency before the Senate.

It was gathered to make the situation look like a routine exercise, some senior Police officers would be re-deployed by the Police hierarchy to resume as conventional Police officers.

It was equally reliably gathered yesterday that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has already issued a leter to Magu on the development and directed that he hands over to the Director of Operations in the Commission.

Magu’s nomination was recently rejected by the Senate following allegation of graft levelled against him by the Department of State Security Service (DSS).

Jammeh incommunicado, says Ban Ki-Moon

The United Nations EX-Secretary-General, Mr Ban Ki-moon

Embattled President Yahya Jammeh of Gambia has been unreachable by the phone, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has revealed.

”Despite efforts to reach President Yahya Jammeh by phone, the Secretary-General has not yet been able to speak with him”, the statement by Stephane Dujarric, Ban Ki-Moon’s spokesman said in a statement in New York.

The UN chief has, however, spoken with Adama Barrow, the President-elect, to congratulate him on his electoral victory and to reiterate the commitment of the UN to a peaceful, timely and orderly transfer of power.

In a readout of the phone call to Barrow, Ban Ki Moon said the UN welcomed and fully supported the December 17 decision of ECOWAS to support the safety of the president-elect.

Ban advised the president-elect to urge his supporters to show restraint and not resort to violence.

The secretary-general emphasized that the UN would support the will of the people in their election of Barrow as well as the future government in efforts to promote democracy and sustainable development of the country.

The UN Security Council and the AU have also expressed such support and have acknowledged Barrow as the president-elect after he defeated the incumbent, Jammeh, in the December 1 presidential election.

Jammeh has refused to accept the result of the election after first congratulating Barrow.

He has approached the Supreme Court on the matter.

Buhari receives Boko Haram flag, silent on Shekau

Buhari receives Boko Haram flag, silent on Shekau

The flag of Boko Haram that was recovered from Sambisa forest “camp zero” was handed over to President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday night by Lucky Irabor, a major general and theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole.

At exactly 10.30pm, Buhari received the flag at this year’s regimental dinner organised by the presidential brigade of guards.

He was, however, silent on the claims by Abubakar Shekau, leader of the insurgents, that his group had not been crushed.

Men of the Operation Lafiya Dole had, on December 22, announced the successful take-over of ‎“camp zero”, ‎the strongest enclave of Boko Haram in the Sambisa forest.

The army declared ‎victory over the insurgents but in a propaganda video thereafter, Shekau said if indeed the claim was true, “how come you see me like this?”

At Friday’s dinner, Irabor said ‎about 1,240 suspected Boko Haram members were arrested during a mop-up operation inside Sambisa.

In his response, Buhari recounted how he was nearly killed even before he collected his first salary in the army – and that he enjoyed his 25 years service before he was retired.

“I believe you are here because you want to be here and you cannot complain. We will do our best to build the national institutions in the country,” he said.

“There are 250 ethnic groups, so keeping Nigeria one is a task that must be done. So even for personal reason you must make sure this country stays one and remain strong.”

Tukur Buratai, lieutenant general and chief of army staff, assured Nigerians that they will continue their onslaught in the north-east.

At Last, Army Found Fugitive Shekau, How He Escaped From Sambisa Forest Revealed.

At Last, Army Found Fugitive Shekau, How He Escaped From Sambisa Forest Revealed.

A military source who asked not to be named revealed the whereabout of the fugive Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau has been sighted and will soon be capured, report by Punch Newspaper revealed.

The source revealed Boko Haram jihadists have been “tremendously weakened and are trying to avoid confrontation … by hiding in some obscure locations.”
Islamists routed from Sambisa have reportedly fled to areas on the edge of the forest, islets on Lake Chad as well as villages on the Cameroon border.

Visit us at Uju Ayalogu's Blog

“They were sighted in large numbers in … the Kala-Balge area,” said a vigilante helping in the fight, referring to a region near Cameroon.

The head of the fishermen’s union in Borno state, the epicentre of Boko Haram’s seven-year insurgency, said some fighters had regrouped on Lake Chad, which straddles Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Chad.

It provides the jihadists with a “convenient sanctuary”, with its 400 islets covered with dense vegetation that makes aerial detection and ground operations dangerous, Abubakar Gamandi said.

“The islets are between one and two square kilometres and the fresh water and abundant fish in the lake make them habitable,” said Gamandi, who has fished in Lake Chad for 40 years.

Abu Musab al-Barnawi, the leader of a Boko Haram faction recognised by the Islamic State group, has already been living on the lake since his group split from Shekau‘s leadership in August, residents and vigilantes say.

Should Shekau and his troops move there, it is unclear whether the two rival factions will end up battling each other.

– The next battleground? –

Cameroonian troops have intensified their operations along their nation’s frontier with Nigeria, where fleeing Boko Haram fighters have also sought refuge, according to a vigilante in the Nigerian border town of Banki.

“Cameroon has upped security along the border which has forced fleeing Boko Haram (fighters) to head to Kala-Balge, where Nigerian troops are deploying”, said the vigilante, who did not want to give his name.

Visit us at Uju Ayalogu's Blog

“Kala-Balge may be the next battleground,” said Umar Ari, a local trader.
According to Yan St-Pierre, an expert on jihadist groups, cooperation between west African governments fighting Boko Haram has “vastly improved since September.”

However, “the army’s biggest problem is to secure the areas it recaptures from Boko Haram,” he added, referring to a spike in suicide and other guerrilla-style attacks unleashed since the jihadists began to lose ground.

Even though the Nigerian authorities have claimed several times that the end of Boko Haram was imminent, the conflict has merely continued to shift and “the army remains far from gaining the upper hand.”

– ‘A matter of time’ –

How Shekau escaped from Sambisa remains a mystery.

He “might have escaped in the intense battle to take over Camp Zero,” an army source told AFP, referring to the last jihadist bastion in Sambisa Forest to fall to Nigerian troops.

He has since been spotted in Pulka village near Gwoza on the Cameroonian border — and is currently believed to be hiding in a forest in Kala-Balge, a security source said.

Shekau‘s fighters are believed to have taken with them scores of Chibok girls held since 2014, as well as Nigerian army hostages, to use them as human shields.

Despite the odds, Nigerian troops remain defiant.

“We are closing in on Shekau and his remaining commanders,” said a military officer speaking on condition of anonymity.

“It is just a matter of time before we get him, dead or alive”.
