The compulsory every last Saturday Environmental sanitation in Lagos has now been cancelled...Governor Ambode tells why

The every last Saturday mandatory clean up of Lagos  from 7am to 10am has now been cancelled.
Accoding to a statement made available by the state Commissioner for the Environment, Babatunde Adejare, during the ministry’s monthly media chat in Lagos today,  the monthly exercise will be jettisoned because of its cost to the state’s economy.

The commissioner disclosed that the state governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has decided that the state cannot afford to shut down a mega city like Lagos for a period of 3 hours.

Mr. Adejare noted that environmental sanitation should rather be a daily exercise and charged residents to make it a way of life.

The commissioner also vowed that the state will shut down markets violating the state’s environmental laws.

Popular Prophet Claims He Went to Heaven and Took Pictures on Easter Sunday

Popular Prophet Claims He Went to Heaven and Took Pictures on Easter Sunday

Prophet Mboro

A prophet who allegedly ascended to heaven as thousands watched has come back with revelations that he snapped pictures of heaven with his phone.

A popular South African pastor has left many people stunned after he revealed that he went to heaven and snapped pictures. The Incredible Happenings Ministries founder and leader, Prophet Mboro finally spoke out concerning his ascension to heaven over the Easter weekend, News SA reports.

According to news sources, thousands of church goers witnessed a miracle as the controversial prophet was caught up to heaven on Easter Sunday. It is said that the incident happened at an Easter service in Johannesburg, but people from as far as Pretoria testified that the sky somehow looked different around 10:30 am.

According to reports, Mboro was about to begin a sermon at his church in his hometown when a beam of light from the sky appeared and whisked him into paradise while some feared he was taken by aliens.

The story was confirmed by Mr. Nkuna, a spokesperson of the church who conducted an interview with a local News Paper (Katlehong Weekly). He said that the Pastor was indeed captured to heaven and he is now back.

“The prophet did go to heaven during the service, and he came back later that day. While there, he took pictures using his Samsung Galaxy S5 so he can show them to the people on earth if they do not believe he was captured to heaven.

"The pictures will be made available to the public on his Facebook page later next week and can now only be accessed through a R5000 pledge. Those who need the pictures can contact the church and make the pledge using Money Market then we will send them the pictures on Whatsapp,” said Mr. Nkuna.

Shocking! Power Generation Crumbles to ZERO MegaWatts for Hours

Shocking! Power Generation Crumbles to ZERO MegaWatts for Hours

Nigeria’s power generation collapsed completely on Thursday at exactly 12.58pm to zero megawatt and this persisted for about three hours, according to the Punch.

Blackout in Nigeria set a new record of all time low following the failure of the power plants to generate power for some hours.

Data from the country’s System Operator showed that around 1pm on Thursday, no power generation company in Nigeria produced a single megawatt of electricity.

Industry operators told our correspondent that as a result of the complete collapse, no electricity distribution company received load allocation beginning from when the collapse was recorded up till around 3pm.

The SO stated that the 11 distribution companies got zero electricity load allocation during the period of the collapse, meaning that for about three hours on Thursday no part of Nigeria got power supply from the national grid.

Our correspondent, however, gathered that supply of electricity was restored around 3pm.

For instance, out of the 450MW that was due Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, the Disco only got about 50MW when the situation began to improve.

Before the collapse, AEDC got an allocation of 257.97MW and the nationwide generation level stood at 2,243.2MW. Sources in the sector blamed the complete collapse in power generation on the extent of destruction of infrastructure and gas pipelines vandalism that had happened in the industry over the past years, as well as the poor upgrade of power installations across the country.

“The power crisis being experienced nationwide since Tuesday this week has worsened on Thursday with a total system collapse at exactly 12.58pm this afternoon. At that point, the nation went to ground zero, with all the Discos receiving zero MW allocation from the System Operator,” an operator in the sector told our correspondent in confidence.

Officials from the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing as well as private investors, had attributed the never-ending fall in electricity generation to vandalism of gas pipelines and destruction of vital infrastructure in the industry by miscreants.

“Aside pipelines vandalism, some miscreants have been involved in the destruction of vital power infrastructure and this has been affecting not just generation but transmission and distribution as well,” a senior official at the power ministry who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak on the matter, had said.

The official also stressed that the ongoing difficulty in the downstream oil industry was also impacting negatively on the power sector.

Incredible! Baby Boy With Holes In His Heart Gets Miraculous Healing (Photos)

Chibuikem Joshua Eze

A cute little boy with a serious heart disease that gave him holes in his heart has been miraculously made whole.

The baby's mother, Mrs Amara Ugo Eze, who is completely overwhelmed with joy and happiness told how her son was diagnosed with a serious heart condition and is now completely healed.

She said it was so severe that the baby was losing weight, and the doctors said he would need surgery in India.

The overjoy Mrs Eze took to her Facebook page  to share her inspiring testimony on the efficacy of the power of God.

Read her testimony below:

Oh our son Chibuikem Joshua Eze is 6months today!!! Words fail me but I'll say a few things. He was conceived supernaturally, and apart from one or two attacks from the enemy which God gave us victory in, there were no hassles throughout the pregnancy. He was also delivered supernaturally to the glory of God.

Incredible! Baby Boy With Holes In His Heart Gets Miraculous Healing (Photos)

On the 14th day of his life, he was diagonised of a heart condition. He had 2 large holes in the heart. Oh my God, it was a scary experience. I couldn't feel my legs when I heard the doctor' s report, but as I left the room, I looked into our son's eyes and said, 'This sickness is not unto death but to showcase the Glory of God on your life son'. Immediately, scriptures started flooding my heart and I was strengthened. On our way home we laughed very well. I and my husband started building our faith in God..

The paediatric cardiologist said it was impossible for the holes to close back. That we should start preparing for surgery in India. Hmmm. Hubby told her we'll make our decision after the second echo scan. My son was loosing weight due to the condition. We were asked not to allow him suck so that he doesn't go into heart failure. So many procedures(phew). They gave him some medicines he'll take pending the surgery.

I discarded the drugs after giving our son the first dose and told hubby that the Word of God is Josh's MEDICINE. I allowed him to suckle because babies are designed to suck from their mothers' breasts. We got scriptures on healing and the one that talks specifically about the heart Ezekiel 36:26. And started applying it on him by confessing it daily.

Incredible! Baby Boy With Holes In His Heart Gets Miraculous Healing (Photos)

I had to build my faith by reading a Kenneth E. Hagin's study book on Prayer. We just kept confessing God's word and refused to believe that anything was wrong with Josh. In January, during our church programme, (WAFBEC), Pst Matthew Ashimolowo mentioned our case and we claimed it by faith. We danced, laughed, praised and blessed the name of God for his healing.

Exactly 3weeks ago, we went for the second echo scan. To God be the Glory, the scan read that Chibuikem Joshua Eze's heart has been COMPLETELY CLOSED. I wanted to hold my husband tight and scream out my lungs in excitement but the tears started rolling! The God that perfectly knitted my baby in my womb has given my son a NEW HEART!

The God that makes impossible situations possible HEALED our son COMPLETELY!

Oh Praise God with me!

Senator John Kerry at the Walter Washington Convention Centre. March 31, 2016.

In far away United States of America, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, explained why he would not hurriedly assent to the 2016 passed by the National Assembly.

Speaking at a meeting with the United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, in Washington DC, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, explained why he would not hurriedly assent to the 2016 National Budget passed by the National Assembly, adding that he would critically review the document before assenting to it.

According to a statement by Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and pPublicity, in view of the controversial alteration and padding of the budget proposals, the president needed to review the appropriation bill to be certain that its contents tallied with the authentic budget proposal presented to the National Assembly.

"Some bureaucrats removed what we put in the proposal and replaced it with what they wanted. I have to look at the bill that has been passed by the National Assembly, ministry by ministry, to be sure that what has been brought back for me to sign is in line with our original submission," the president said.

While declaring that his administration will continue to vigorously prosecute its war against corruption, President Buhari sought and received an assurance from Kerry that the United States Government will facilitate the repatriation of all stolen Nigerian funds found within the American banking system.

"It will greatly help our country if you assist us to recover all our stolen funds which we can establish to be within your financial system," the president told Kerry.

Responding, the Secretary of State said that he has been told that the stolen Nigerian funds were in 'billions of dollars'.

"It’s not easy to hide that amount of money and we are pretty good in tracing them," Kerry assured President Buhari, adding that relevant United States Government Officials will meet with the Chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to discuss further cooperation in that regard.

End of Fuel Crisis: Kachikwu Brokers IPMAN Peace Deal

End of Fuel Crisis: Kachikwu Brokers IPMAN Peace Deal

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu

The end of the fuel crisis might be very imminent as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has brokered a peace deal with IPMAN to end the crisis.

It seems like the lingering fuel crisis might end sooner than we expected as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has waded into the matter as he reached an agreement with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria.

The minister, who held a meeting with the feuding factions of IPMAN at the corporate headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Thursday, raised a 14-man committee and charged them with the task of doing everything possible to bring back peace to the association at the national, zonal and depot levels.

According to a statement released by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Mr. Garba Deen, stated that the petroleum minister told the IPMAN members that they were critical stakeholders in the downstream sector, as their contribution was crucial in the drive to end the prevailing fuel scarcity across the country.

He charged IPMAN to work with relevant government agencies such as the NNPC, DPR and other stakeholders to address the fuel scarcity.

Speaking on the meeting between IPMAN and the Minister, the National Secretary of IPMAN, Danladi Pasali, expressed readiness to assist the Federal Government towards bringing a lasting solution to the fuel situation in the country within the next two weeks as earlier promised by Kachikwu as the Senate.

“In the spirit of reconciliation and patriotism, we have resolved to forget our differences and work together towards providing products to our various stations across the country in order to ease the hardship on Nigerians,” Pasali said.

According to him, all IPMAN stations across the nation will be mandated to operate 24-hour service to help reduce the rush and provide fuel to the populace.

Also speaking, a senior official of IPMAN, Mr. Augustine Erhabor, said the association would set up teams to monitor products distribution and deliveries at all their outlets nationwide.

He assured that all IPMAN members would get their products at official ex-depot price so that they can sell at government approved prices to Nigerians. According to him, IPMAN would liaise with the NNPC management to facilitate the quick loading of about 7, 000 outstanding products’ tickets for onward dispensing into the hinterland across the country.

Falana, Sagay, Oby Ezekwesili & Aribisala Clash at Roundtable on Corruption War in Lagos

Falana, Sagay, Oby Ezekwesili & Aribisala Clash at Roundtable on Corruption War in Lagos

Legal scholars and experts hurled verbal missiles around a round table convened to brainstorm on winning the war against corruption at the University of Lagos on Thursday.

A round table organised by the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, tagged "Winning the War Against Corruption", at the University of Lagos on Thursday, had legal scholars and experts hurl ‎verbal missiles around to brainstorm on winning the war against corruption.

The event which began with the keynote speech 'Rule of Law and Treatment of Politically Exposed Persons in Corruption Cases' delivered by Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was also an opportunity to launch the book 'Legal Perspectives to Corruption, Money Laundering, and Assets Recovery in Nigeria.'

Femi Falana, who was represented by Wahab Shittu, advocated the creation of special courts to handle corruption cases.

The verbal battle began‎ after controversial scholar, Femi Aribisala, took to the podium to discuss Falana’s speech. "There is no fight against corruption in Nigeria. And if there’s no fight against corruption, you can’t even talk about war," Aribisala began.

He then launched into a 10 minute speech that attacked the global definition of corruption by Oby Ezekwesili, a former World Bank vice president who had earlier defined corruption as 'the abuse of public space for private gains‎', the prescription of special courts by Falana; and current administration’s effort against corruption.

"Corruption cannot be narrowly defined the way Dr. Ezekwesili defined it, only relating to public institutions. We are corrupt in Nigeria. The plumber, the tailor, the whole society is corrupt," said Aribisala.

"And we have not yet taken a decision, we have not yet gotten to a point where we are fed up. I mean, she (Mrs. Ezekwesili) had given an example of Hong Kong where people became fed up and said enough is enough. We have not reached that situation yet, I don’t know why not, but we certainly have not.

"The 2015 election was not an anti-corruption election. We did not have any political party that presented an anti-corruption mandate to us. The party that won the election was just a makeover of the PDP, I mean the PDP people moved from the PDP to the APC. If they were corrupt when they were in PDP, they became clean when they were in APC.

"So there is no mandate against corruption. If President Buhari was determined to fight against corruption, my feeling is that he gave up after losing election three times. Because the fourth time, he formed an alliance with people who he despised before. And they were not necessarily people who had a track record of being (sic) anti-corruption. So today, I don’t know who is anti-corruption."

Aribisala said the current fight against corruption by the President Muhammadu Buhari government is merely a fight against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

"We have to make up our minds if we really want to deal with the question of corruption. If we want to deal with the question of corruption, Nigerians themselves must insist on it and we have to deal with it at the institutional level.

"The institutional fight against corruption that has taken place to the extent that it has, took place under PDP. The institutional structures, even the ones that the present government is relying on, are PDP structures. Whether it is EFCC, ICPC, TSA, all these came under PDP.

"In ten months of Buhari’s‎ government, there has been no institutional structure that has been laid against corruption. We have simple had media circuses accusing people of corruption.

"You cannot fight corruption with corruption. And corruption is more than just the stealing of money. If you disobey the rule‎ of law, you have corrupted the system. If you create an avenue where you have a big margin between the official foreign exchange rate and the parallel market rate, there’s gonna be corruption. If you have children of the rich getting into the CBN on nepotistic grounds, the corruption is still with you.

"If you have a budget that is padded left right and centre, and after this was revealed you passed it and say only a small amount changed in it, and we do not know what is in the new budget, you can’t say you are against corruption. There is no transparency in any of these things," he said.

Meanwhile, Itse Sagay said the APC had a manifesto that spelt out its strategies to combat corruption, and admonished Aribisala to stop making statements devoid of facts.‎

"Obasanjo created ICPC, EFCC, they are doing well we don’t need to create new institutions. You do not win a war by just creating multiplicity of institutions everywhere, that’s irresponsible. We will work with the institutions that we have.

"You don’t dilute the meaning of corruption to a point that it is meaningless. This is a very serious discussion and I want us to be serious about it. If you are anti-government, please go and campaign against government and let your party win in 2019.

"This is not a venue for PDP campaign. Most inappropriate comment. We are here on serious business. Let’s maintain that seriousness," he said.

With Mr. Aribisala appearing unperturbed by Sagay’s stern remarks, Mrs. Ezekwesili pleaded for another chance at the podium, ostensibly to further drive the case against Aribisala’s argument.

"The systemic nature of corruption as a cancer against a system of governance is demonstrated in the fact that the activity of corruption begins to happen at their different levels," Mrs. Ezekwesili began.

"So for example, I wasn’t surprised that some of you were clapping. The reason you were clapping is that you are a page in your own level of corruption.

"There are many whose exam malpractice is the basis upon which ‎they have come to school. So when you are talking about the need to wage a war against corruption, they are completely disconnected from it. There is a complete dissonance from it."

Ezekwesili urged the students to desist‎ from applauding populist statements. "You need to be driven by the evidence of the damage and the destruction ‎that corruption is doing to you, at the unit level. If you think you are doing well now, you will do exceedingly better if corruption is effectively tackled in this society," she said.

"There is no comedy session going on here. We are talking about something that can be destructive. You should be holding the gun to fight against corruption. The gun has to be intellectual, so I need you to intelligently process everything that is said."

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama welcomed thousands of children to the South Lawn of the White House on Monday morning, March 28 for the final Easter Egg Roll of his presidency.

There were over 35,00 attendees on the South Lawn. Among the lucky guests were Nigerian NBA player, Emeka Okafor, his wife and beautiful daughter, Adaeze, Beyonce and Jay-Z and their 4-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, other celebrities, staff of the White House, and others

The egg rolling began in 1878. Now the event includes storytelling, musical performances and tips from professional athletes on how to play basketball, tennis and other sports. There are even cooking demonstrations and yoga. This year, the first lady added a fun run to the mix.
"I'm going to be running around the White House with a bunch of kids and any adults who feel like they can hang," the first lady told the crowd as the president jokingly signaled in the background that the run wasn't for him.

The Obamas spoke from a balcony that overlooks the lawn with dogs Bo and Sunny and the Easter Bunny at their side. They then went out into the crowd for some hands-on play.

The president read the children's book, "Where the Wild Things Are," a classic from 1963, and the Obamas acted some of the story out, marching enthusiastically with the kids as he read the line "let the wild rumpus start!"

‘Married women can’t join the police’… 5 ways the constitution discriminates against women

‘Married women can’t join the police’… 5 ways the constitution discriminates against women

On March 16, Nigerian legislators refused to pass for second reading, the bill on gender equality.

The bill, titled ‘Gender Parity and Prohibition of Violence against Women’, would have, among other things, provided women quality in marriage, education and opportunities. This was not to be.

Some of the legislators cited religious and cultural reasons. Some said the constitution already provides for the rights of all persons in Nigeria and, therefore, eliminates the need for a codified instrument to protect the rights of women.

BUT HERE ARE FIVE WAYS NIGERIA, IRONICALLY, LEGITIMISES DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN AND THE GIRL CHILD.

CITIZENSHIP

Did you know that section 26 (2) (a) of the 1999 Nigerian constitution denies a woman the right to confer citizenship statues on her foreign husband but grants such rights to a foreign woman married to a Nigerian male?

ASSAULT

The criminal code doles out harsher punishment – felony – for assault against a man. Be you a woman, it is misdemeanour. Read here what section 353 of the criminal code says: “Any person who unlawfully and indecently assaults any male person is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for three years. The offender cannot be arrested without warrant.” And read here what 360 says: “Any person who unlawfully and indecently assaults a woman or girl is guilty of a misdemeanor, and is liable to imprisonment for two years.”

MARRIAGE

Under Nigeria’s penal code guiding the northern parts of the country, “Nothing is an offence, which does not amount to the infliction of grievous harm upon any person and which is done by a husband for the purpose of correcting his wife. Such husband and wife being subject to any natural law or custom in which such correction is recognized as lawful.”

WORK

Section 55 of the labour act bans women from working in the night. “No woman shall be employed on night work in a public or private industrial undertaking or in any branch thereof, or in any agricultural undertaking or any branch thereof.”

POLICE

This must take the biggest piece – the police regulation.

Section 121 to 126 regulates the affairs of women in the way it does not regulate males.

Women police officers shall, as a general rule, be employed for duties that are concerned with women and children only. Married women cannot enlist in the police. Where an enlisted single woman wants to get married, she must have spent two years in the police and then apply for permission to marry.

She must furnish the police with particulars of fiancĂ© who must be investigated and cleared before permission is granted. A married woman police officer “shall not be granted any special privileges by reason of the fact that she is married and shall be subjected to posting and transfer as it were unmarried.”

Also, an unmarried woman police officer who is pregnant shall be discharged from the force.

Lionel Messi Sparks Bitter Outrage in Egypt After Donating Boots

Lionel Messi Sparks Bitter Outrage in Egypt After Donating Boots

Argentinian football star, Lionel Messi

Superstar footballer, Lionel Messi has sparked outrage in Egypt after he donated his boots for charity during a television show.

A charitable gesture by Argentinian football star Lionel Messi has provoked outrage in Egypt, where a lawmaker and football official took umbrage at the donation: his football boots.

Messi, in an interview with the private satellite channel MBC Misr, had donated his boots to the channel to auction them off for charity.

“Messi, I really thank you,” said the interviewer as she sat across from the Barcelona player, dangling his boots, in the segment aired on Saturday.

While no one would consider being hit with a shoe or boot, or being labelled a shoe a compliment, it is especially insulting in Middle East cultures.

Donating boots, it emerged, was equally insulting to Egyptian member of parliament Said Hasasein, who attacked Messi on his television show.

“This is my shoe,” he said, holding up a beaten loafer. “I donate it to Argentina.

“This is an insult to Egyptian people,” he elaborated, thumping his fist on his desk.

Egyptian Football Federation spokesman Azmi Mogahed phoned in to the show to express his outrage.

“Even in our religion…” he began to say, when Hasasein interrupted: “His religion is Jewish!”

Mogahed agreed. “I know he’s Jewish, he donates to Israel and visited the Wailing Wall and whatever … we don’t need his shoe and Egypt’s poor don’t need help from someone with Jewish or Zionist citizenship.”

“People in Argentina sleep in parks!” Hasasein added.

Messi was born into a Catholic family, and has made the sign of the cross after scoring goals.

Some Egyptians criticised Messi, and his interviewer, on Twitter, using the hashtag “Messi’s boot for the Egyptian people.”

“It’s not your fault, Messi you dog. It’s the fault of that son-of-a-shoe channel, and that daughter-of-a-shoe interviewer,” wrote one.

Others, including former Egyptian football star Mido, defended Messi.

“The most precious thing a writer has is his pen, and the most precious thing a football player has is his boots,” he wrote on Twitter.

If you had the powers to turn into any animal you want, at any time you want, what animal would you turn into during s*x to ensure that you gain ultimate satisfaction?

Popular Ghanaian gospel musician, Florence Obinim has said that her husband, Bishop Daniel Obinim, leader of the International God’s Way Church, can transform into a snake or other animals like a horse during s*x.

Answering a question on what animal her husband turns into during s*x, she said "he first tried a snake but I was so scared he wouldn’t come out if he entered me as a snake. And the following night, he tried a horse which was so perfect."

She added; "Since then, he knows what I love and appreciate, so the moment the foreplay ends, he transforms into a horse and starts knocking me from behind, enough for my huge blessed backside."

When she was asked about how often they have s*x, she refused to answer, saying, 'that’s private.'

Shocking! Watch as Surgeons Remove More Than 20 Toothbrushes From Patient's Stomach (Graphic Video)

Shocking! Watch as Surgeons Remove More Than 20 Toothbrushes From Patient's Stomach (Graphic Video)

A really bizarre video has emerged showing doctors removing more than 20 toothbrushes from the stomach of a patient in the operating room.

The truly gruesome video showed the moment a patient had more than 20 toothbrushes surgically removed from the their stomach.

The vomit-inducing clip shows a surgeon cutting into the skin before delving inside the gut and pulling out each brush, one at a time.

A seemingly never-ending stream of brushes are then extracted from the stomach, with more than 20 being removed and placed in a bowl next to the operating table.

The original video appears to have been uploaded to YouTube by Sumesh Sukumaran on March 27.

Not much is known about the footage, and it is unclear how the patient came to have so many toothbrushes stuffed inside his gut.

The stomach-churning clip has also been shared on LiveLeak.com, where it has been viewed more than 12,000 times in 11 hours.

One viewer suggested that the patient could be suffering from a pica eating disorder, which is typically defined as the persistent ingestion of non-nutritive substances.

Another added: "I sit here counting and laughing at this, but seriously he's one of those people who can't stop swallowing things.

"But can you imagine swallowing your toothbrush?"

Billionaire Businessman, Ifeanyi Ubah Allegedly Caught on Camera Slapping Heartland FC Goalkeeper

Billionaire Businessman, Ifeanyi Ubah Allegedly Caught on Camera Slapping Heartland FC Goalkeeper

Ifeanyi Ubah (left) speaking with reporters after a football match

According to Premium Times, oil mogul and billionaire business man, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, is currently facing sanctions for his role in the violence that erupted during a Nigeria Premier League game between his club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, and Heartland FC.

A new video clip has showed that chairman of FC Ifeanyi Ubah actually slapped Heartland FC goalkeeper during a league match, as many Nigerians are keen to see the punishment that will be meted against the billionaire businessman.

It was gathered that the League Management Company disclosed it would review the sanctions earlier meted out against Ubah and Heartland goalkeeper, Ebele Obi, after a video showed more details of the roles played by the two actors.

The LMC had on Wednesday handed down sanctions to all parties involved, although many viewed the sanctions against Ubah as not being severe.

In the earlier sanction, FC Ifeanyi Ubah was “charged for the encroachment of their supporters on the technical area immediately after the match against Heartland and acting in a manner capable of bringing the league to disrepute contrary to Rule 13.8 of the Rules and Framework”.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah was also sanctioned for failure to ensure adequate security, crowd control and for granting access to unauthorized persons to restricted areas, contrary to Rule B13.52, as the club was accordingly fined N500,000 on each of the two breaches and allowed 48 hours to appeal the ruling in writing or submit to the decision of the LMC.

Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, the chairman of the club, was only reprimanded by the LMC for failing to show positive example by encroaching on the pitch and fueling the disturbances, leading to the harassment of players of Heartland by his team members and personal aides.

Heartland goalkeeper was banned from all NPFL activities and matches for six matches. But with the emergence of the video evidence, the league body has said it would review the sanctions.

The video which has been deleted from Youtube, showed that Ubah actually slapped the Heartland goalkeeper, and many Nigerians are keen to see the punishment that will be meted against the businessman.

APC Not Responsible for Current Economic Hardship - Senator Goodwill Akpabio

APC Not Responsible for Current Economic Hardship - Senator Goodwill Akpabio

Godswill Akpabio

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party who is the Senate Minority Leader, has appealed to Nigerians not to blame the current economic woes on the President Buhari's All Progressives Congress led federal government.

While addressing journalists in Arochukwu, Abia State, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio has appealed to Nigerians not to blame the current economy woes on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) led government, adding that the country’s current economic challenge was a global phenomenon orchestrated by the steady fall in oil prices.

The former Akwa Ibom state governor who advocated for diversification of the economy, said the global economic meltdown is being felt more by Nigerians because the country runs a mono-economy built around oil.

He enjoined the Federal Government to pay attention to other sector of the economy like mining, agricultural and entrepreneurship ventures and as well as foreign direct investment to boost the country’s revenue base.

"So, what has happened here is that with the massive failure, what we call oil glut in the market, the oil price has reduced below what we expected in the last 20 years. That automatically has affected our economy.

"It has nothing to do with which administration is in power. It has something to do with resources to be able to deliver the dividend of democracy."

While he admitted the effect of the harsh economy on the citizenry, sued for patience from Nigerians and solicited support for the present administration in the interest of the country.

"The country belongs to all of us and if the country collapses on our heads, it means that we bequeath nothing to our children," he said.

Outrage in South East as President Buhari-led FG Abandons N140bn 2nd Niger Bridge

Outrage in South East as President Buhari-led FG Abandons N140bn 2nd Niger Bridge

Construction of 2nd Niger Bridge

There is anger in the South East zone over the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government's abandonment of the N140 billion ($700 million) 2nd Niger Bridge.

According to an investigative report on The Authority, Julius Berger Construction Company, has stopped work on the 2nd Niger Bridge project which is being constructed under Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement since April 2015.

Concerned citizens of Eastern Nigeria and other stakeholders are now appealing to President Buhari to direct the construction company to resume work on the project.

After a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on August 26, 2015, the Director General of Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Aminu Diko, had hinted that work on the vital bridge would be suspended.

Dikko said: “The communities around that area are clamouring that their lands have been taken and that they have not been compensated adequately. As a matter of fact, we got a letter from the Onitsha Traditional Rulers Council complaining that they have not been adequately represented in this transaction.”

As that was raging, the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole called on the former Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, to explain to Nigerians the whereabouts of the billions meant for the bridge as according to him, $700 million was drawn from the Sovereign Wealth Fund for the project.

The bridge’s contract was awarded by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan during the second term of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.

Onolememen had then assured Nigerians that the project would be completed before the expiration of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2015 as part of efforts to deliver on the campaign promises of that government. But Jonathan lost in the election and immediately the contractor left the site.

The bridge is said to have been reflected in this 2016 Budget with hope that something tangible would be done to construct the bridge.

Some stakeholders, however, claimed that the construction giant, Julius Berger abandoned work immediately President Buhari took over the mantle of leadership about 10 months ago, following a presidential directive that work at the site should discontinue.

An employee of the firm who claimed he was recruited in April 2014 at the site of the bridge, admitted that Julius Berger had stopped work at the project site since June 2015 due to non-funding by the Federal Government.

According to him, the company only did soil texture and property evaluation before leaving the site with almost all their working equipment. “So, if the Federal Government is ever serious about the project, let it release the money for work to start,” he said.

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) was emphatic on President Buhari as it called on the Federal Government to mobilise to the site of the 2nd Niger Bridge to end the marginalisation of Ndigbo.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Dede Uzor A.Uzor, CD wondered why such a national project should be abandoned and politicised.

Other stakeholders in Onitsha, Anambra State asked President Buhari to direct Julius Berger to return to site to continue the construction of the Second Niger Bridge.

The President of the Amalgamated Association of Anambra Traders (AMATAS), Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo and the Chairman, International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) Nze Emeka Umeagbalasi, among others, called on Buhari to direct Julius Berger to return to site.

Ezenwanko said that he was hopeful that work would resume again at the site because he reliably gathered that the bridge was included in this year’s budget, which has just been passed by the National Assembly.

Chief Anigbata, who also said that the bridge was reflected in this year’s budget, expressed the confidence that Buhari will execute the bridge because of its strategic importance to Nigeria and Ndigbo.

He said that the Federal Government needs to put an infrastructure like the Second Niger Bridge on the ground to boost trade, commerce and agriculture. But Umeagbalasi expressed doubt in Buhari completing the bridge, given his disposition towards the Ndigbo, saying that they are watching him closely.

On their part, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Igbo monarchs and other stakeholders, called on the Federal Government, to as a matter of urgent national importance, resume work on the 2nd Niger Bridge.

The Coordinator of the Seven States Chairmen of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Mazi Alex Okemiri, said the suspension of work on the project stands tall among the injustices against the Ndigbo, adding that the project had become a huge fraud against Ndigbo by successive administrations in the country.

Ohanaeze said the abandonment of the project had seriously undermined and sabotaged economic activities in the South East geopolitical zone which is known for trade and commerce.

In the same vein, the Chairman of Umuahia North Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Philip Ajomiwe, called for the immediate resumption of work on the abandoned project.

He described the suspension of work on the project as “very shocking, painful and unbelievable”, considering the economic and strategic importance of the Niger Bridge to the Nigerian economy.

Similarly, the Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA), represented by Sir Emma Nwakpadolu, lamented the ordeals of traders as a result of the perennial traffic congestion on the existing bridge which is in very bad shape.

He said that the high cost of transporting goods from Lagos and other Western parts of the country across the Niger have led to increase in prices of goods in the South East markets.

In his reaction, former Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Mr. Enyinnaya Onuegbu, said it was regrettable that work has stopped at the project, noting that initially, people were allowing the new administration time to reappraise the projects inherited from the past administration of Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

Onuegbu condemned the action because “that project is the most important construction project in Nigeria presently, and would have provided a modern route into the South East and South-South States. And also make the movement of people from Northern Nigeria into the South very easy.”

Contributing, Chief Henry Ikoh, the Abia State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Industry, posited that the abandonment of the 2nd Niger Bridge project is worrisome to both the people of the South-South and South East geopolitical zones, who are mainly into trade, commerce and industry.

The commissioner, who is also an industrialist of repute, stated that he would not say that the President Goodluck Jonathan administration did not do well in initiating the second Niger Bridge but faulted government for not doing the needed follow up that should have ensured its early completion.

All the several effort to speak with the management, including the Managing Director of Julius Berger Construction Company,  Wolfgang Goetsch, on why work was stopped on the project, proved abortive.

Why we fled Ekiti, by lawmakers

Why we fled Ekiti, by lawmakers

Line members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly yesterday stormed Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to brief reporters on their alleged harassment from law enforcement agencies.

At the Iyaganku Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at 6.30am, the lawmakers said security agents  were trailing them.

Led by the Deputy Speaker, Adewumi Olusegun, they appeared to be on transit as they hurriedly addressed reporters and drove away.

The Chairman, Committee on Information, Gboyega Aribisogan, assisted by Dr. Omotoso Samuel and the Chief Whip, Akinniyi  Sunday, alleged that there were offerred $1million to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose.

In their prepared speech, they unequivocally restated their loyalty to Fayose as they maintained that “no amount of intimidation, arrest, detention, harassment and monetary inducement will make us dance to the tune of those whose only interest is to truncate the Fayose-led government and return to power through the backdoor”.

The lawmakers said: “They should stop trying to get into power through the backdoor. They should stop this harassment, intimidation and use of federal power to oppress innocent Nigerians.”

They alleged that their lives were being threatened  “and we no longer feel safe in our homes in Ekiti State”.

“We want Nigerians to help us ask the police and their collaborators what the arms they claimed were stockpiled during the election used for? Could arms have been stockpiled and no violence, death or attack recorded during and after the election? “Why is the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State willing to ridicule all government agencies? Why have the police not arrested the APC Chairman, Jide Awe, who is wanted for alleged murder and Temitope Aluko, who was declared wanted by the court for perjury, and instead providing security cover for them?

“Even though we believe that the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, a thoroughbred professional, cannot be part of this clandestine plot, we call on Nigerians to impress it upon the police not to allow themselves to be used by desperate APC politicians. This is because doing so will further expose the penchant of the Buhari-led administration for dictatorship.

“No member of the Assembly is remaining in that state. It is not a question of nine of us here with you. All of us, the 26 members, were targeted but they were trying to arrest 11 of us. Some of us seated here have our names on the hit list.

“We are not going to hide for them. We will resist them with the last blood in our vein, we won’t be coerced. Let it be known to them that we won’t shift ground, no matter the amount of intimidation and harassment. We won’t go into hiding.”

On whether or not the incident is affecting their parliamentary functions, the Deputy Speaker said the lawmakers were still working and passing bills as at Tuesday.

$180m Halliburton probe: EFCC boss, AGF in U.S.

$180m Halliburton probe: EFCC boss, AGF in U.S.

EFCC

Two Federal Government officials have gone to the United States for talks on President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chair Ibrahim Magu are in the United States, barely two weeks after a similar trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where about $200b looted funds are believed to have been stashed away by former public officers.

On the agenda are likely to be the extent of the war against graft,  how to repatriate looted funds, the fate of fleeing former public officers, the $180million Halliburton bribery scandal and the $2billion Malabu Oil deal.

The AGF and the EFCC are to participate in the US-Nigeria Bi-National Commission meeting.

According to sources, the EFCC chairman has been in the US in the last five days to meet with various departments connected with the anti-graft war.

It was learnt that the AGF later joined the EFCC boss because of many pending legal issues on corruption matters involving some former public officers.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The AGF and the EFCC chairman are in the US to give status report on the anti-corruption war by the government, areas requiring assistance and how to explore ways of legally ensuring that ex-public officers who have fled to the US return home to account for their tenure.

“Certainly, the agenda will include some issues like the $180million Halliburton bribery scandal, the $2b Malabu Oil deal, the Abacha loot, money laundering cases, 419 scams and the use of some banks for transactions by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for arms purchase.

“Some of those involved in the $2.1billion Halliburton scam have relocated to the US for further studies or medical trip. A few others have dual citizenship and decided to take advantage to hide in the US.

“We need to act within the ambits of the law and collaborate with the US on how to bring back these suspected former public officers to account for their activities in office.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “For the AGF and the EFCC chairman, they just came on board and it is imperative for them to compare notes and build contacts with relevant departments and security agencies.

“The discussion might also focus on capacity building for staff of anti-corruption agencies. The FBI had been of help over the years but we need more technical back up to win the war.

“As a matter of fact, the US had reservations on the anti-corruption policy of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and these observations slowed down exchange of information, sharing of intelligence and coordination of activities between the two countries.

“The renewed commitment of the government of President Buhari has buoyed the confidence of the US that the anti-corruption war is winnable.”

A source in EFCC said: “The trip was in connection with the Federal Government’s anti-graft war.”

A presidency source said: “Both the AGF and the EFCC chairman are members of the Nigerian delegation to the US- Nigeria Bi-National Commission where issues of mutual interest and economic benefits are usually discussed. Definitely, the recovery of looted funds will be dominant at the meetings with the AGF and EFCC chairman.

“You will recall that on his first day in office, the President said. ‘The next three months may be hard, but billions of dollars can be recovered, and we will do our best.’ The intensity of the war against corruption has earned Buhari the confidence of the US and others.”

It was gathered that the Halliburton bribery scandal might attract attention at the talks.

The EFCC had in January reopened investigation into the $180million Halliburton scam.

Of about $22, 417, 000 and DRM 500,000 bribes shared to top government officials during the administrations of ex-Heads of State Gen. Sani Abacha and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar and ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

An Abuja High Court on March 27, 2013 struck out the case against six Nigerians arraigned over the scandal.

Those set free are a former Permanent Secretary,  Ibrahim Aliyu, Mohammed Gidado Bakari and four companies.

The four companies are Urban Shelter Ltd., Intercellular Nigeria Ltd., Sherwood Petroleum Ltd. and Tri-Star Investment Ltd.

The six accused persons stood trial for allegedly  serving as conduits and receiving bribes in hard currency to facilitate natural gas contracts between 1994 and 2005.

Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar,  said the prosecution had failed to diligently prosecute the case.

Also,  Bodunde Adeyanju, Obasanjo’s former presidential aide, was arraigned in 2010 alongside George Mark, Jeffrey Tesler(now at large), Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and Bilfinger  Berger GMBH.

It was learnt that Adeyanju has a pending application in the Supreme Court.

Some Senior Advocates of Nigeria have been quizzed by the EFCC in connection with the scandal.

B’Haram still operating in Two LGAs – Minister

B’Haram still operating in Two LGAs – Minister

Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali

The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, has said the suspected female suicide bomber, who was arrested in Cameroon, was abducted from Chibok by Boko Haram fighters.

He also said that though the military was winning the war against insurgency, Boko Haram fighters were still operating in two local governments.

The minister, who stated this in an interview with Voice of America on Wednesday, however, said the suspect was not among the 250 girls abducted from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State on April 14, 2014.

The Chibok Community had on Tuesday said that the suspected suicide bomber was not from their community.

The Chairman of the community, Tsambido Abana, had told The PUNCH that the suspect had never attended a conventional school, noting that the minor, who does not speak English, was believed to be from Bama area of Borno State.

But in a report on VOA, the minister stated, “She was one of the Chibok girls but not associated with the earlier ones (the Chibok schoolgirls). We have gotten a report  that the girl was taken from Chibok but not among those that were earlier captured.”

He stated that the sect had been using girls as suicide bombers.

The minister  said that the military was making efforts to find the Chibok girls who might have been dispersed in different locations by their abductors.

He stated, “Nobody can keep all the 250 girls in a particular place. So, these girls might have been distributed. Remember that for some time now, they have been using girls as bombers.

“All along we have been trying to track them (the girls). Specifically, if I tell you that they are in a specific place, it is difficult.”

The minister also said that the military under President Muhammadu Buhari, had made serious gains against the Boko Haram sect.

The VOA quoted the minister as having said that the military had reclaimed much of the land erstwhile occupied by the insurgents who had been reduced to waging largely guerrilla warfare.

He said that the coming of the Buhari regime had changed the situation where a large part of the North-East was controlled by the members of the deadly sect.

“Within one year, the coming of our President has changed the game. Look at what was happening before whereby three states, the whole North-East, was under the terrorists. Now we may have maybe two local governments,” the VOA quoted the minister as having said.

He stated also that Buhari’s regional approach to the fight against the insurgency had yielded tremendous results.

He said that the Nigerian security forces had been receiving specialised training in the fight against terrorism with quality advice from the international community.

He said that the neighbouring countries to Nigeria such as Cameroon, Benin and Chad, had been integrated into the fight against the Boko Haram sect and had been sharing information with the country.

Evade tax, go to jail – Lagos warns individuals, companies

Evade tax, go to jail – Lagos warns individuals, companies

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) on Wednesday in Lagos said it would begin the prosecution of tax evaders and offenders from April 1.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Mr Olufolarin Ogunsanwo.

The statement said that the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on taxable persons who failed to file requisite returns as provided by the law.

“While many taxpayers have complied willingly by filing their returns in the last months, it is disheartening to note a large fraction of eligible taxpayers are still not complying.

“The focus of the present administration in renewing infrastructure and general development of the state cannot be achieved by the attitude of those who deliberately refuse to discharge their civic responsibility.’’

It said that LIRS had, in the last three months, embarked on massive advocacy and enlightenment programmes.

The statement said the programmes took people through a process of education on the laws bordering on tax administration and the need and benefits of paying their taxes regularly.

“We have gone further to develop various initiatives to ease the methodology of paying taxes in Lagos,” the statement said.

It said the initiatives included simplification of tax payment processes, through the compression of “Tax Form A’’ from six pages to two pages, introduction of new payment platforms and e-submission of annual returns.

The statement said all of these were focused on building convenience into the payment of taxes and subsequently promoting voluntary compliance.

“We are now going to the next phase, which is enforcement and prosecution that is taking full advantage of the provisions of the tax laws to apprehend and prosecute tax defaulters.

“We have a robust database that captures all taxable individuals and firms in Lagos State as well as transactions for the purpose of audit, so there is no hiding place for any tax evader.”

The statement called on every taxable person in the state to take advantage of the window on or before the March 31 deadline to ensure their tax returns were duly filed.

It said that the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice would, through the Rapid Tax Prosecution Unit, begin the prosecution of tax defaulters without further notice.

According to the statement, all tax evaders and offenders, upon prosecution, may be fined or imprisoned or made to face both as provided in the Personal Income Tax Act.

Tinubu made the impossible happen by placing APC in power – Fashola

Tinubu made the impossible happen by placing APC in power – Fashola

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has extolled the virtues of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, saying he made the impossible happen by ensuring that an opposition became the ruling party for the first time in Nigeria’s history.

Fashola stated this in a congratulatory message to Tinubu during the colloquium organised to mark the APC national leader’s 64th birthday in Abuja.

According to the Minister, Tinubu steered the country away from the destruction the immediate past administration was dragging it into.

Fashola said, “It was dangerous for Nigeria to keep that administration for another term and the evidence of that was before us. The country was falling apart. You must salute the courage, the passion, the foresight of Asiwaju to reach across and say ‘let us forge a partnership to save Nigerians, to save ourselves’.

“On whether or not there could be a merger, everyone said it wasn’t going to happen, it had never happened in the history of Nigeria and as far as that was concerned, it (the merger) was a victory that the impossible had become not only probable but possible and that was due to Asiwaju’s self conviction and, as I said, his ability to mobilise people and materials behind an idea.”

CCT trial: PDP will produce next Senate President – Nwaoboshi

CCT trial: PDP will produce next Senate President – Nwaoboshi

Senator Peter Nwaoboshi

The Senate Committee Chairman on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi has declared that in an event that Senate President, Bukola Saraki loses his case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP lawmakers in the Senate would seize the opportunity to produce his successor.

Stressing that the PDP caucus would not back the emergence of an All Progressives Congress, APC senator to become the next Senate President, he vowed that the PDP would replicate the current United States scenario in Nigeria where the opposition controls the congress.

Nwaoboshi, who disclosed this while interacting with newsmen in Abuja, said: “Well, I wish APC the best of luck if they are making that wild goose chase. But I want you to mark what I am saying. I was the first to address the press in Port Harcourt and I told them that Saraki was going to win the Senate presidency and I gave them my reasons.

“Then, nobody ever thought that Saraki was going to win. People were saying that APC had decided. But it was clear to me that he was going to win and I had to address the press.

“I said Saraki was going to win and that he was going to get my vote. Eventually, we went there, he won. If, but God forbids, because we don’t see it coming, by chance Saraki is removed, I can tell you that PDP will produce the next Senate President.

“We only need three APC senators and we have them. The calculation is very clear to me. The calculation is very clear for PDP. We know what it would take us.

“When I told them that Saraki was going to win, I did a lot of mathematical calculations based on the facts on the ground and it is even clearer to me now that the PDP will win it. We will win it.

“If anybody is thinking that a PDP man is going to vote against a PDP candidate, he is telling you a lie. We have people and we know how to get the people from APC. We will win and that will be very interesting.

“What is happening in America is going to happen in Nigeria. America has a Republican Senate but the executive is led by a Democrat, so it’s happening in different parts of the world. I can tell you with what’s on the ground that we will produce the next Senate President.”

ARMY UNHAPPY WITH HOW COLONEL DIED, VOWS TO FISH OUT KILLERS

ARMY UNHAPPY WITH HOW COLONEL DIED, VOWS TO FISH OUT KILLERS

With the remains of abducted Colonel Samaila Inusa of the Nigerian Army laid to rest at the old Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) cemetery in Kaduna yesterday, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai has vowed to arrest his killers and make them face the law.

The late Inusa, who was chief instructor at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, near Kaduna State, was kidnapped at gunpoint on Refinery Junction in Chikun Local Government of Kaduna State at the weekend.

His abductors dropped his wife and left with him in his car, heading towards Abuja.

The Nigerian Army had promised a reward of N1 million for anyone that can provide useful information that would lead to his rescue, however, this was not to be so as his decomposing body was found on Tuesday on the Kaduna Eastern bypass, a few kilometres away from where he was abducted.

Speaking at the burial of the late Inuwa yesterday, Buratai, who was represented by the Chief of Administration at the Army Headquarters, Maj.-Gen. Ado Abubakar, said the Army was mourning the slain senior officer, who had served the country meritoriously.

The army chief described the late officer as a gallant and professional soldier, noting that the Army was not happy the way and manner he was killed.

“Col. Inusa was a great soldier. We feel the pains. Though death is inevitable and nobody can run away from it. I came in to represent my boss, the chief of Army Staff, because the Army is mourning one of us that has served this country greatly and we are not happy the way he died.

“But whatever happens, we shall see to the end of it all”, Abubakar vowed.

Our correspondent reports that the deceased was buried at noon according to Islamic rites, after which he was given military honour with three gun salutes.

Why 13 Sacked VCs Will Not to be Reinstated After Buhari's Apology

Why 13 Sacked VCs Will Not to be Reinstated After Buhari's Apology

President Muhammadu Buhari

The federal government has made a shocking revelation that it will not reinstate the 13 sacked Vice Chancellors after he apologized for wrongfully sacking them.

The federal government on Wednesday clarified the position of government relating to the recent apology by President Muhammadu Buhari over the sacked 13 vice chancellors and the dissolution of governing councils of universities. It said the it will not reinstate the sacked vice chancellors.

Buhari had apologised for the decision by government to hurriedly terminate the appointments of universities’ vice chancellors, particularly, their governing councils, without recourse to the extant laws.

He apologized at a forum in Abuja with All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts. The president had told his party members that government “gave a blanket order which we had to rescind when we said all boards are suspended or dissolved. We had to go back and lick our vomit in terms of universities councils because we found out that according to their laws, they cannot choose vice chancellors unless the councils sit and interview candidates who want to be VCs.

"So, there is nothing wrong in saying sorry and going back on your decision. So, we said sorry and allow all the universities to continue with their councils. So, please, try to bear with us as we reflect on where we found ourselves.” Buhari said.

According to Thisday, a Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Education, Dauda Abdulramid, explained that the president’s apology does not connote reinstating the sacked vice chancellors given that government’s earlier position was no longer reversible.
“He did not say that he has reversed the sack, he only apologised. Once government takes a decision, it stands by it. Maybe, subsequently, they will take caution next time. But that does not mean he clearly stated that the sacked Vice Chancellors should be recalled,” he added.

Similarly, Head of Information and Public Relations, National University Commission (NUC), Ibrahim Yakassi, maintained the same stance saying: “He made reference to the dissolution of all boards in this country. It has nothing to do with the 13 vice chancellors that were recently disengaged. It has no relation to that. The president when he dissolved all boards in this country included all the councils of federal universities then. But he rescinded that decision as he said because the councils needed to be inplace to appoint vice chancellors. There was a process then; most universities’ vice chancellors were going then.”
