JAMB Withdraws 2016 Admission List

JAMB Withdraws 2016 Admission List

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has withdrawn the list of recommended candidates for admission earlier sent to tertiary institutions.

The examination body said this was to ensure that the University Senate performs its statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB for confirmation in line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as  directed by the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, at the policy committee meeting.

JAMB in a statement on Sunday said the earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission.

The statement, signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, added: “Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise. JAMB regrets any  inconvenience this decision would have caused the tertiary institutions.

“The Board regrets any  inconvenience it’s proactive step would have caused the tertiary institutions.”

London police chief warns terror attack a case of ‘when, not if’

London police chief warns terror attack a case of ‘when, not if’

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe

Britain cannot be fully protected against terrorism and an attack similar to those seen recently in mainland Europe is a question of “when, not if,” London’s police chief said on Sunday.

The warning by Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe reflects Britain’s current “severe” threat level for international terrorism and follows a string of attacks in Germany and France, some of which have been linked to Islamic militants.

Hogan-Howe acknowledged that people in Britain were becoming increasingly worried they could be next.

“I feel and understand that fear, and as the police officer in charge of preventing such an attack, know that you want me to reassure you. I am afraid I cannot do that entirely,” he said in a blog posted online on Sunday and printed in the ‘Mail on Sunday’ newspaper.

“Our threat level has been at “severe” for two years — it remains there. It means an attack is highly likely — you could say it is a case of when, not if.”

Britain’s newly-appointed Security Minister Ben Wallace said he had met owners and operators of the country’s biggest shopping centres to discuss their security plans, reports Reuters.

“In light of events in Germany and France, the government is keen to ensure that shopping centres and sports stadiums where there are large crowds are getting the support they require,” he told the ‘Sunday Times’ newspaper.

2 Nigerians killed in South Africa – yet again

2 Nigerians killed in South Africa – yet again

Barely three days after Ikejiaku Chinedu, a 35-year-old Nigerian businessman, was beaten to death in South Africa, two other Nigerians have been killed in the country.

The fresh cases of death bring to 17, the total number of Nigerians killed in 2016 alone.

Lamenting over the incessant killings, Ikechukwu Anyene, president, Nigeria Union in South Africa, called for the intervention of the federal government.

“The Nigerian community in South Africa is not happy with the killings,” he told NAN.

“We urge the federal government to persuade its South African counterpart to investigate and prosecute incidents of killings of Nigerians in that country.

“We are getting worried about these incessant killings and we want the culprits prosecuted.”

Anyene said the most recent tragic incidents occurred at different areas of Johannesburg.

He said that the first victim, Gideon Ogalaonye, an indigene of Onitsha, Anambra, was allegedly shot dead at 7 pm while on a visit to the residence of his daughters, and that the second victim, Nnamdi Michael, an indigene of Enugu state, was allegedly stabbed to death by a Zimbabwean national at Yeoville.

Anyene quoted witnesses as saying the assailant first demanded for money from Michael, which was not given and later attempted to forcefully remove his phone.

He said that the assailant stabbed the victim, adding that Nigerians at scene pursued and arrested him.

“The Zimbabwean has been handed over to the police and we will follow the case,” he said.

“The two incidents have been reported to the Nigerian mission in South Africa and the South African police.

Most bestiality is legal, declares Canada's Supreme Court(sexual intercourse between a person and an animal.)

Most bestiality is legal, declares Canada's Supreme Court

Sex acts with animals are legal in Canada, so long as there is no penetration involved, according to a surprise ruling issued by the Supreme Court.

The determination stemmed from a case involving a British Columbia man convicted of 13 counts sexually assaulting his stepdaughters - including one count of bestiality. But the man, identified only as "DLW", was acquitted of the bestiality count with the new ruling.

DLW's attorneys argued that bestiality linked to "buggery" - or sodomy - with animals beginning with an 1892 criminal code. Bestiality was first used in a 1955 code, but still was not defined to encompass every sex act with animals.

"Although bestiality was often subsumed in terms such as sodomy or buggery, penetration was the essence - 'the defining act' - of the offence," the court said.

Thus, the court ruled by a 7–1 majority that bestiality required penetration.

“There is no hint in any of the parliamentary record that any substantive change to the elements of the offence of bestiality was intended,” the ruling reads.

According to court record DLW smeared peanut butter on the genitals of his victims and had the family dog lick it off while he videotaped the act.

Court documents disclose that DLW attempted to have the dog perform intercourse on the stepdaughter, but that ultimately failed.

DLW is serving a 16 year prison sentence. He brought the bestitality conviction to the court on appeal.

Justice Rosalie Abella was the lone dissenter, and had suggested that the court deny the appeal.

“Acts with animals that have a sexual purpose are inherently exploitative whether or not penetration occurs,” she wrote.

Representatives for Animal Justice, who brought the case to the Supreme Court, said the ruling should encourage Parliament to act on changing "outdated" laws that fail to protect the country's animals.

"As of today, Canadian law gives animal abusers license to use animals for their own sexual gratification," executive director of Animal Justice Camille Labchuk told The Independent via emailed statement.
"This is completely unacceptable, contrary to societal expectations, and cannot be allowed to continue."

Animal Justice implored Parliament to pass the Modernizing Animal Protections Act.

"This much-needed bill updates the animal offences in the Criminal Code," Ms Labchuk added, "and closes this dangerous loophole to make it crystal clear that all forms of sexual activity between a person and an animal are unacceptable."

Jimoh Taoreed

30-year-old man, Jimoh Taoreed, pictured above has been arrested after he disappeared with a van used to distribute sachet water produced by his employer, the Anglican Diocese, at Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State, barely 24 hours after he was employed.

Parading Jimoh before newsmen at the state police command, the state police commissioner, Leye Oyebade said Jimoh applied for the job with the intention to steal.

When he applied for the job, he gave his name as Saheed Popoola and said that he was an indigene of Eruwa town in Ibarapa area of the state. However after his arrest, it was discovered that his real name was Jimoh Taoreed and he hailed from Irawo Owode in Atisbo Local Government Area.

Taoreed and his assistant, a motor boy, on the day he absconded with his company bus, had gone to distribute bags of sachet water to buyers on June 30th but after carrying out the task, he deceived his assistant by telling him that he wanted to withdraw money from a bank in another location at same Bodija area.

After he parked the vehicle, the unsuspecting conductor also alighted to transact business in another bank, but before his return, Taoreed drove the vehicle to an unknown place and was not seen again until his arrest, Oyebade stated further. Jimoh was arrest and the vehicle was recovered at Irawo Owode.

On recovery of the vehicle,Jimoh had removed the inscription that was originally on it and replaced it with Oga Nla  which means Big Boss.

When interrogated, Jimoh said
“About three weeks ago, while distributing bags of water to customers, a spirit pushed me to drive the vehicle away. The thought was countered by another spirit which told me not to do it. But at the end, I obeyed the first one that urged me to steal the vehicle.

I left the person who was distributing the water bags and drove the van to my village. I went to pay for a bold sticker reading ‘Oga Nla’ (Big boss) and posted it on the van.

Unfortunately for me, I was traced to my village and arrested. I was suspected by my family members that I stole the vehicle. I believe they were the ones who informed the police. I admit that my act is of the devil and I promise not to do so again.”

HURRAY!!! Tomato price crashes from N25,000 to N800 per basket

HURRAY!!! Tomato price crashes from N25,000 to N800 per basket

A small basket of tomato, which sold for N25,000 in May, is now going for N800 in Kaduna. And, no, it is not a joke.

It had been all anger and pain for households as the price of tomatoes hit the roof across the country as a result of scarcity caused by tuta absoluta, also known as “tomato ebola”.

This affected the crop in most parts of the north-west, notably Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina and Kano states.

As a result, the basket prices jumped from the range of N800-N1200 to between N25,000 and N40,000 at the height of the crisis.

At the Line Dogo (Rail Line) tomatoes and vegetable market in Kaduna on Saturday, it was a beehive of activities.

Buyers could not believe their eyes as tomato prices had crashed to a two-month low.

Abass Mai Tumatur, chairman of the tomato sellers, told TheCable it was a “pleasant relief” for everyone as tomato is now available and in large quantities.

HURRAY!!! Tomato price crashes from N25,000 to N800 per basket

Mai Tumatur: Things are getting better

“Tomato scarcity is nothing new, but it was made worse this year  by the invasion of the moth,” he said.

He said the insects mutate more during the dry season but don’t survive during the rainy season.

“The rains coupled with the efforts of government have helped tremendously in making tomato available,” he said, praising the government for the “timely intervention”.

He assured the public that the fear is gone now “and hopefully for good”.

Farmers were left stranded and helpless as the moth ravaged their farms and left destruction across the farming community, making a pot of soup as expensive as gold.

Hotels and restaurants, in particular, faced a nightmare as the crisis also shot up the price of canned tomato paste.

Many were not aware of the reasons for the scarcity as frantic efforts were made to to address the situation.

Nasir el-Rufai, the Kaduna state governor, declared a state of emergency and dispatched officials to Kenya to find ways of tackling the ravaging insects.

The cost of the destruction in the state, according to el-Rufai, was close to N1 billion.

Audu Ogbeh, minister of agriculture and rural development, also commissioned experts to find solutions to the disease outbreak “as soon as possible”.

The insect originated from South America around 1912 and has spread to other parts of the world.

Reports suggest the insect came to Africa through Republic of Niger.

VERY SAD!!! How 3 Men Gang-Raped 16-Year-Old V!rgin In Lagos While Returning From School

VERY SAD!!! How 3 Men Gang-Raped 16-Year-Old V!rgin In Lagos While Returning From School

Three young men are currently cooling their heels in one of the dreaded cells of the State criminal Investigation Department, (SCID) Yaba, Panti for allegedly gang raping a 16-year-old virgin (names withheld) in Orile area of Lagos while on her way from school.

The suspects identified as Sunday Simeon, 18, from Akwa Ibom state; Adebayo Omoniyi 18, from Ondo state; Nnaemeka Uzodinma 24, from Imo state and Seyi (surname unknown) who is currently on the run attacked, abducted and gang raped the victim who is a JSS 3 student on June 23, 2015.

Vanguard learnt that the suspects attacked the victim after one of the suspects, Adebayo took the victim’s phone around Arikeuyo junction while returning from school at Orile.

It was gathered that while the victim was struggling with Adebayo, his partners-in-crime dragged her into a tricycle and rode her to no 15 Unity Close in Orile Iganmu. When they got there, they took off her school uniform and raped her one after the other starting from Adebayo.

Vanguard gathered that after successfully raping the victim, one of the suspects Adebayo suggested to the other gang members that they kill the victim and throw her corpse into the canal so that she won’t expose them.

But another member of the gang, Seyi pleaded with them to be cautious with Adebayo’s advice, and instead adviced his colleagues to threaten the victim rather than kill her. Hearkening to Seyi’s advice, the suspects threatened to kill her with a cutlass if she ever mentioned to anyone what they did to her or that they gang raped her.

Later, they collected her phone number and rode her back to Alako area in Orile while Sunday gave her N100 to board a commercial vehicle home. According to a source close to the family who spoke to Vanguard on the condition of anonymity:

“when the victim came back from school, it was obvious that something was wrong as she was walking with difficulty, her uniform torn, she was bleeding because she sustained severe bruises all over her vagina”.

“Her parents who saw her torn uniform and noticed the way she walked, asked what had happened to her and she told them how she was attacked by four men who raped her on her way back from school. Immediately, her father took her to Orile Divisional Police station to report the incidence.

Fortunately, while she was at the station with her father, the suspects kept calling and threatening to kill her if she told anyone what they did to her”.

Meanwhile the victim was taken to Ifelodun Ajeromi Government Hospital where she received treatment after a series of tests were carried out on her which confirmed that she has been sexually abused.

It was learnt that the police advised her to lure the suspects who were calling and threatening her by telling them that she was coming to see them again after school the next day. Unknown to them that it was a trap and that her parents had notified the police, they bought the idea.

At the agreed time, she went there with the detectives who succeeded in arresting one of the suspect’s ,Nnaemeka Uzodinma. His arrest eventually led to the arrest of two others.

It was gathered that the victim’s blood stained pant and the cutlass which was used to threaten her have been recovered from the suspects' one-room apartment in Orile.

The suspects who are currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, yaba, Panti would soon be arraigned in court.

If This Ever Happens For Whatever Reason, That Will Lead To The End Of Nigeria – US Senator, Ted Cruz Warns Buhari

If This Ever Happens For Whatever Reason, That Will Lead To The End Of Nigeria – US Senator, Ted Cruz Warns Buhari

Senator Ted Cruz

On 29th July 2016 CNN reported that “the Nigerian government is preparing troops for a crackdown in the Niger Delta if peace talks fail”.

This is sad and ominous. As United States Senator Ted Cruz once said “the light of truth is stronger than the terror of darkness”.

It follows that the biggest mistake that the Buhari administtation can possibly make is to attempt to “crack down” on the Niger Delta and kill innocent civilians.

If this ever happens, for whatever reason, it will set off a chain of events that will lead to the end of Nigeria as we know it.

Nigeria will disintegrate before Buhari’s very eyes if any more innocent blood is shed and if the towns, creeks and villages of the oil-producing states are shelled and reduced to rubble.

The cause of the people of the Niger Delta, and indeed that of the Igbo people of the eastern states, is just and their struggles and aspirations are legitimate and reasonable.

Self-detetmination is a right. It is a concept and principle that is universally accepted and that has the backing of international law.

You do not threaten and bomb those that seek to exercise that right: you treat them with respect, decency and decorum and attempt to persuade them to stay.

This is a point that is lost on President Buhari and those around him. The Avengers are not Boko Haram: taking them on in the field of battle would be a monuemental error.

SHOCKING | See How This Lady Died after She Was Abandoned by the Rich Guy She Married For This Reason (photos)

SHOCKING | See How This Lady Died after She Was Abandoned by the Rich Guy She Married For This Reason (photos)

Olachi Manndarin Emmanuel

Ladies, I will use this to remind you all of what I have been saying...NEVER date or marry a man for the cash he has and the comfort you believe you would enjoy by getting married to him.

Wait, there is nothing wrong in marrying a rich guy but what WE will tell you for free is, you will get yourself into a mess if that is your focus because the crazy quest for a rich man will blind you to what truly matters in marital life.

Any man who does not have the fear of God - you can't see it, you can't feel it and you can't hear him talk about God - don't marry him even if he's a Billionaire. It takes just a few months for a rich man to get tired of a woman and once that happens, sorry is your name if he lacks the fear of God.

This beautiful 24yrs old nursing mother died after her rich husband "abandoned her". The details...

Her close friends who knew her story said that Olachi Manndarin Emmanuel got married last year to a Port Harcourt big boy, who is from Benue State, and while she was giving birth to their daughter few months later, She developed complication with her pelvic bone.

This allegedly prompted the husband to start acting funny, he beat her up before dumping her and bundling her back home to her parents house. Olachi's condition worsened thereafter and she fell into a coma few weeks ago and all attempts to reach her husband failed as he reportedly warned the family to stay off his back as he has moved on.

SHOCKING | See How This Lady Died after She Was Abandoned by the Rich Guy She Married For This Reason (photos)

Sadly, Olachi died in the process. Below is what one of her friends Ben wrote on his FB page:
"I bleed and talk out of anger tonight as I watch a small innocent girl ready to be committed to mother earth at 24 years tomorrow being Friday and her daughter will be 1 year by next tomorrow being Saturday.

To this wicked, devilish, stupid, heartless and a fool of a husband that took a girl of 22 years, married her and got her pregnant and returned her back sick to her parents and left her on a sick bed as a result of her breaking her waist during child birth, u will die like her. u are such an animal and a disappointment to humanity.

U were not forced to marry her and what u used to pay her back for the love she showed to you and left every other suitor for you is to return her back and never set ur eyes on the innocent girl for close to a year, note even when she was in coma for weeks before death.

U Mr. Benue man, u did dis cos she is not from Benue state and u work in the oil company in Port Harcourt and u have money, but let me without fear tell you that Vengance is coming cos God is ready to Avenge. U beat up the innocent girl even on clutches just for her to go, I ask when u married her, was she disabled?

SHOCKING | See How This Lady Died after She Was Abandoned by the Rich Guy She Married For This Reason (photos)

U abandoned an innocent girl that is not up to a year cos u want to have nothing to do with ur wife.

Legally married and wedded in the church. hahahahahaha I see the God of Vengeance striking. Man u are very stupid for saying u can only give the family #30,000 for the burial of ur own wife.

Where have the love u both shared gone to? Why are u heartless, y did u kill ur wife and abandoned a girl that will be 1 year old by Saturday to wander in dis wicked world without the care of a mother. the people of Owerri west LGA of Imo state and the entire imolites must rise to get justice.

I will make sure justice is gotten. Above all u refused her to be buried in ur place, man I want to ask u, what on earth has this small girl done that can't be corrected or resolved or settled or forgiven? Why must u surfer her to die at this age? Finished university in 2014, served and married u in the same year 2015 and u wickedly killed her in 2016. Vengeance is coming and God must Avange her death.

Rip MRS. Olachi and I wish your Dad is alive to prevent this insult and injustice to ur family. My prayers are that the God of Vengeance should Avenge ur death. Rip, I write with a heavy heart. Good night.

Unbelievable!!! Scientists Use Solar-powered Machine to Turn Urine Into Beer

Unbelievable! Scientists Use Solar-powered Machine to Turn Urine Into Beer

From sewer to brewer. This bottle brew was crafted with recycled urine. (Reuters)

In this remarkable achievement, scientists from the University of Ghent, Belgium have invented a machine that turns urine to beer.

Mankind has been turning beer into urine for centuries. Leave it to science to find a way to reverse that process.

Scientists at Belgium’s University of Ghent say they’ve created a machine that turns urine into potable water, and fertilizer, using solar energy. The scientists have since crafted small batches of Belgian ale from the recycled water.

"We call it from sewer to brewer," Sebastiaan Derese, one of the researchers from the University of Ghent, told Reuters. "We're able to recover fertiliser and drinking water from urine using just a simple process and solar energy."

The machine collects urine in a big tank which is then heated in a solar-powered boiler. As the heated water evaporates it passes through a membrane, which separates the H2O from nutrients like phosphorous and nitrogen. Those nutrients can then be used to enrich fertilizers for plants. The water is then diverted to a separate tank.

Since the system requires no electricity, the researchers hope it can be used to provide clean drinking water for people in developing countries. According to Derese, the process could help organize agriculture in a more sustainable way throughout many rural communities more susceptible to drought.

But the system can also be used for commercial purposes to quickly purify water where there are a lot of people—who have to go to the bathroom a lot—like sports stadiums, shopping malls and airports.
Scientists recently presented the machine at a 10-day music and theatre festival in central Ghent, using the slogan #peeforscience, according to the New York Daily News.

The team recycled 1,000 liters of water from urine collected at the event. Now the scientists plan to use that water to brew even more of their signature "Brewer to Sewer" beer.

So the next time you take a swig of beer and think to yourself, “this tastes like warm p---,” you might just be providing an accurate flavor profile.

In March, California's Half Moon Bay Brewing Company began making small batches of its popular Mavericks Tunnel Vision IPA with recycled waste water—known to environmentalists as gray water (any used water not from toilets) as a partial solution to the state's drought problem.

I have nine years before reaching menopause – Halima Abubakar

I have nine years before reaching menopause – Halima Abubakar

Halima Abubakar

In a swift reaction to the mounting criticism that trailed her online ‘revelation’ penultimate week that she was looking forward to losing her ‘virginity’ and having kids, sultry Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, has lashed out at what she calls the negative stereotype of women in the make-believe industry.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Abubakar  was unapologetic about her hugely controversial claim of being ‘a virgin’ and took a swipe at doubting Thomases.

“Why would people become annoyed because I said I am a virgin? Just because I’m in the industry does not mean I am badly behaved. Not everyone is sexually active. You can have a boyfriend and not be sexually active.

The reaction I got shows the mentality of the people. If I say I’m a virgin, I am and if I say I am not, then I am not. They tell me to go get married, should I go after  someone else’s  husband?,” she said.

Abubakar added, “Everybody thinks one should get married from age 18. A lot of marriages are complicated. Marriage will come when it will come, one doesnt need to force it. People are getting divorced with pregnancies because they got married under pressure. We should let people be.

People are saying if you are not getting married, go and get kids because menopause is approaching. What kind of thing is that? Is it your menopause?  I still have about nine years before I hit menopause all things being equal.

I am not one of those people that will kill themselves because of marriage. I can’t have kids outside marriage.”

How Nigerian Police Officer Robbed Driver His Money During Stop & Search - Man Makes Shocking Revelation

A journalist has shared his experience how some group of mobile policemen robbed the driver of the car he was travelling with.

The policemen were said to have allegedly robbed a driver by dipping hand into his pocket and stealing his money

A man has narrated how a police officer allegedly robbed a driver after dipping had in the drivers pocket to steal all his money before running away.

The story was shared on Facebook by Precious Eze who witnessed the incident.

"ATTENTION PLEASE: NIGERIAN MOBIL POLICE ARMED ROBBERS ON THE PROW!

The Enugu-Portharcourt Express Way (the boundary between Enugu and Abia States) has become a danger zone for men of the Under-World who are actually Mobil Police Officers, stopping and robbing motorists in the name of asking for documents.

Today, I experienced their high handedness and high level of idiocy on that road as they pretentiously stopped the ITC Sienna I boarded from Enugu to Owerri and were asking the driver to open the backside glass of a Sienna for them.

The driver was quick to ask if they didn't know that the backside glass of a Sienna car doesn't open excerpt the doors are used for better view and he was like, ''yes I know, but I say make you open the glass'', give me all your documents and the driver did, when he couldn't find any fault, he demanded for the drivers personal ID card which was when the driver exclamated, asking what his personal ID card was for when he had his driver's license and all his vehicle particulars with him.

The rogue Mopol kept me and other passengers under the sun for more than 1hr, 45mins before all of a sudden, the thief dipped his hand into the front pocket of the driver, making away with all the money the driver had on him and zoomed off.

His action shows that stopping us was a ploy to collect money as it is customary of the Nigerian Police Force, but to actually steal the money by force and running away means he is actually a Mobil Police Armed Robber.

The attention of the Force Headquarters is sought to get rid of these kind of THIEVES on police uniform, robbing and making away with people's monies and properties on the high way.

Good Evening!!"

Jay Z And Roc Nation Won’t Change My Music – Tiwa Savage

For Tiwa Savage, staying true to the Nigerian influences on her music is very important as she signs a new deal with Roc Nation, owned by American showbiz mogul, Jay Z.

She revealed this in a chat on Apple Music iTunes introducing her to American music audience.

Hear her, “I met B High (Jay Z’s cousin, and Roc Nation chief of mobile strategies), I got a call, and he mentioned it and I (makes a skeptical sound)…He was serious. I don’t know if it you’ve ever met him, but he is serious.

And I love the fact that they are not trying to change me. They really just want to bring what I already have to offer to the rest of the world, and they truly believe in the movement. So yeah, I’m really excited about it.

“The reason why we did not really make too much noise about it is because a lot of people come over from Africa and they say they’ve got this deal and that deal, and then nothing happens.

We just wanted to do it the proper way, get it official. I didn’t want to do that to my people. I wanted them to really believe that it was really happening, so we wanted to wait for the right time, and the time is now.

Sacked Reps Appropriation Chair, Jibrin, Releases Photos of Dogara's 'Guest Houses' in Abuja

As the budget padding scandal rocking Nigeria's House of Reps worsens, the embattled sacked Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Sunday, released what he said were pictures of one of Speaker Yakubu Dogara's guest houses

According to an exclusive report by Premium Times, the sacked former chairman of the Federal House of Representative Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Sunday, released what he said were pictures of one of Speaker Yakubu Dogara’s guest houses, as the budget padding scandal rocking Nigeria’s House of Representatives worsens.

Hon. Jibrin who sent the pictures to the publication on Saturday night, said they depicted  Dogara’s guest house located at Vistula Close, along Panama Crescent, in the exquisite Maitama neighbourhood in Abuja.

Jibrin had repeatedly said in his allegations that Dogara allegedly looted funds meant for legislative duties to furnish his guest houses and other apartments being personally used by him.

Sacked Reps Appropriation Chair, Jibrin, Releases Photos of Dogara's 'Guest Houses' in Abuja

The charges were part of the similar ones Jibrin had come up with in recent days, following his ouster from the Appropriation Committee’s leadership on allegations that he betrayed the House leadership and other members.

Jibrin denied all the allegations, saying it was Dogara who had been sitting over massive misappropriation of public funds as Speaker.

“Mr. Speaker and Deputy Speaker Yusuf Lasun diverted millions of naira all in the name of paying for guest houses and official residence. The issue became so messy that the Deputy Speaker openly accused Hon Herma Hembe of short changing them of millions of naira in the deal to the shock of many honourable members,” Jibrin said in a July 25 statement.

Dogara and others named in the alleged fraud denied the allegations.

Jibrin’s whistleblowing had seen the public inundated with House internal documents about how funds were allegedly allocated to lawmakers for ‘constituency’ projects, triggering sweeping investigation into the scandal.

A top Imam and more than 100 other Muslims have attended a Catholic Church mass to worship with Christians in France.

It was a sight to behold as Muslims attended Catholic mass in churches around France on Sunday to show solidarity and sorrow after the brutal jihadist murder of a priest.

AFP reports that more than 100 Muslims were among the 2,000 faithful who packed the 11th-century Gothic cathedral of Rouen near the Normandy town where two jihadi teenagers slit the throat of 85-year-old Father Jacques Hamel.

“I thank you in the name of all Christians,” Rouen Archbishop Dominique Lebrun told them. “In this way you are affirming that you reject death and violence in the name of God.”

The delegation was led by Nice’s top imam Otaman Aissaoui in the southern city where a jihadist carried out a rampage in a truck on Bastille Day, claiming 84 lives and injuring 435 including many Muslims.

“Being united is a response to the act of horror and barbarism,” he said.

It was also the same thing at the Notre Dame church in southwestern Bordeaux were a Muslim delegation, led by the city’s top imam Tareq Oubrou attended the mass.

“It’s an occasion to show (Muslims) that we do not confuse Islam with Islamism, Muslim with jihadist,” said Reverend Jean Rouet.

The Muslims were responding to a call by the French Muslim council CFCM to show their “solidarity and compassion” over the priest’s murder on Tuesday.

Said a woman wearing a beige headscarf who sat in a back pew at a church in central Paris: “I’m a practising Muslim and I came to share my sorrow and tell you that we are brothers and sisters.”

Giving her name only as Sadia, she added softly: “What happened is beyond comprehension.”

AFP further reported that the most poignant moment of Sunday’s mass in Rouen was the sign of peace, a regular part of the liturgy when the faithful turn to greet each other in the pews, either shaking hands or kissing.

Archbishop Lebrun used the moment to step into the congregation and greet Muslim leaders attending, as well as three nuns who were at the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray when Hamel was murdered.

Outside the Rouen cathedral a few policemen and soldiers stood guard but did not conduct searches, seeking to reassure a jittery population after the second jihadist attack in less than a fortnight.

Both of the 19-year-olds attackers, Adel Kermiche and Abdel Malik Petitjean, had been on intelligence services’ radar and had tried to go to Syria.

Cost Cutting: President Buhari Bans Conference Bags, T-shirts, Souvenirs at FG Workshops, Seminars

Cost Cutting: President Buhari Bans Conference Bags, T-shirts, Souvenirs at FG Workshops, Seminars

President Buhari

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has banned the procurement and distribution of conference bags, T-shirts and other souvenirs at events organised and funded by Federal Ministries and Agencies.

In continuation of the on-going cost-cutting and efficiency drive in the utilization of public funds by President Muhammadu Buhari administration, the Federal Government has banned the procurement and distribution of conference bags, T-shirts and other souvenirs at events and activities such as Conferences, Workshops and Seminars organised and funded by Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The new measures were approved by President Buhari following recommendations by the Efficiency Unit of the Federal Ministry of Finance, and conveyed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Ministers of Finance and Budget and National Planning, by the Chief of Staff to the President, Alhaji Abba Kyari, for implementation.

The directive which is a recognition of the fact that in a period of lean financial resources in the face of huge national infrastructural deficit, wasteful and unnecessary expenditure on overheads such as on souvenirs and conference bags were luxuries that the government must eliminate to release funds for infrastructure and services such as health and education that would have direct positive impact on the wellbeing of the citizenry and promote economic development.

The directive also contained specific guidelines that would reduce the cost of printing Invitation Cards, Programme of events, Brochures, Folders and Note Pads. Among the guidelines are that they should be in black and white and limited to only one page and in the case of Brochures they should be streamlined to contain only essential information.

Similarly, the directive has banned the printing of unnecessary publications and books of short shelf life which have no real value to the concerned public institutions or the citizens.

While noting the need for the citizenry and other interested parties to be aware of the initiatives, activities and programmes being implemented by the government, the MDAs were directed to save costs by uploading such publications on their websites which have the added benefit of wider visibility, and print only limited number of hard copies of such publications.

It would be recalled that the Efficiency Unit was established by the present administration to promote fiscal prudence on overhead expenditure thereby releasing resources for the development of vital national infrastructure.

DESTROY YOUR MOLES, WARTS, BLACKHEADS, SKIN TAGS AND AGE SPOTS COMPLETELY NATURALLY

Many people turn to numerous skin and beauty care products to make their skin clear and glowing.

Harmful chemicals accompany these products. However, there is something natural you can do and still get fantastic results. They can improve the appearance of your skin and get rid of all skin issues. Here are excellent natural remedies for common skin problems:

1.Moles

Moles appear at any time in life in both, children and adults. They are actually close groupings of skin pigmentation cells called melanocytes, and come as a result of sun exposure or genetics.

Resolve them by using Garlic

The garlic extract or just plain garlic can be extremely effective in eliminating moles. Before you apply it, protect the skin around the mole with masking tape or petroleum jelly. Apply the garlic extract or pressed garlic to the mole, cover the area with a bandage and leave it thus for four hours. This procedure should be repeated every day.

Resolve them by using Castor Oil and Baking Soda

A mixture of castor oil and baking soda can deliver the same results. Mix the castor oil and baking soda into a gummy paste, and apply the paste on the mole. Cover the area with a bandage and leave it thus overnight. Remove the bandage in the morning and rinse the area. You can repeat the procedure every night.

Resolve them by using Apple Cider Vinegar

Soak a cotton ball in the apple cider vinegar, and apply it on the mole. Place a bandage or medical tape and leave it to act for eight hours. The mole will fall off.

2.Warts

Warts are caused by the human papilloma virus or HPV, and are manifested by small bumps on the skin or mucous membranes. Warts are usually treated with salicylic acid or freezing. Resolve them by using Bananas

You need to rub the wart every night with a banana peel. Repeat the procedure for two weeks and the wart will disappear.

Resolve them by using Pure Raw Honey

Rub honey on the wart at night and wrap it with a bandage. In this way, you will successfully remove it.

Resolve them by using Apple Cider Vinegar

Soak a cotton ball with apple cider vinegar and secure it with a bandage. Leave it thus overnight, or for 24 hours. Then, replace it with a new one. The wart will slowly shrivel up and vanish.

Resolve them by using Garlic

If you use crushed garlic or garlic juice, you can remove a wart in two weeks. Every night, rub crushed garlic on the wart and put a bandage over it. Apply garlic juice to the wart two times a day.

3.Skin Tags

These are skin growths that stick out from the skin surface, and usually appear around the neck, upper chest, underarms and eyelids. They usually appear as a result of skin rubbing against skin. They are commonly eliminated by tying off, cutting off, and freezing.

Resolve them by using Apple Cider Vinegar

Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and squeeze it to remove any excess. Dab the skin tag with the apple cider vinegar, and leave it on the place for as long as you want. In several days, the skin tag will darken and fall off by itself.

Resolve them by using Tea Tree Oil

Soak a cotton ball with water and add a couple drops of tea tree oil. Dab the cotton ball on the skin tag and cover with a bandage. You repeat this process two to three times a day for a month. Even though it needs some time, this method is the safest for the skin tags around the eyes.

Resolve them by using Baking Soda and Castor Oil
This mixture can effectively eliminate skin tags. Mix the ingredients in order to get a paste and apply it to the skin tag, securing it cover a bandage. The paste can be stored in the fridge for up to 48 hours. Repeat this method two to three times a day.

4.Dark Spots

Age spots or dark spots are discolored patches on the skin on the face, hands and forearms. Apparently they occur as a result of sun exposure and an aging liver.

Resolve them by using Lemon

Soak a cotton ball in lemon juice and rub it on the dark spot twice a day.

Resolve them by using Aloe Vera

Put fresh aloe on the dark spot and leave it on for 30 minutes. Use the inner gel of the fresh aloe plant.

Resolve them by using Onion

Simply juice or blend the onion and apply it to the dark spot. Leave it thus for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse off. You should repeat this procedure daily until the dark spot vanishes.

Resolve them by using Horseradish

You need to mix it with vinegar and apply the combination to the dark spot daily. The dark spot will slowly fade away.

Resolve them by using Vitamin C Serums

Hand- crafted, organic, chemical- free vitamin C serums can do wonders for your skin! They contain topically active vitamin C and can eliminate dark spots quickly. Moreover, they will repair the damaged skin.

5. Clearing Out Clogged Pores

Clogged pores are usually caused by oil buildup on the skin, which can make the skin look bumpy. They destroy the smooth appearance of the skin and need to be removed.

Resolve them by using Sugar Scrub

Make a paste with sugar and lemon. Rub it with an organic cotton washcloth on the area with clogged pores in a circular motion. When you are done scrubbing, wash your face and rinse it with warm water.

Resolve them by using Steaming

Wash your face. Place your face over a pot with boiled water. Cover your head with a towel, in order to be exposed to as much steam as possible. Remain there for 10 to 15 minutes. Afterwards, wash your face and rinse it a few times with warm water. Finally, apply some vinegar to clean up any extra debris.

Road Ends for Fake Pastor Who Used False Prophecy to Lure & Rob Victims in Owerri, Imo State

Road Ends for Fake Pastor Who Used False Prophecy to Lure & Rob Victims in Owerri, Imo State

Delight Arinze Okorie

A man who claimed to have been in pastoral ministry for 10 years and was on the run for sometime over many crimes including fraud, attempted murder and robbery, have been captured by the police in Owerri, Imo State.

A 45-year-old pastor-in-charge of Watered Ground Ministry, Delight Arinze Okorie, who claimed to have been in pastoral ministry for 10 years and was on the run for sometime now, have been finally arrested and is cooling his heels in the custody of the Imo State Police Command, Owerri.

“I have been in pastoral ministry for over 10 years. When some of my members or the friends they bring, come to tell me about their problems, I always give them fake prophecies. If I discover that they have money, I use the opportunity to rob them by setting them up with the fake prophecies,” he told a Sunday Sun reporter in Owerri.

In an interview with the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, said the suspect deployed strategies in deceiving, robbing and attempting to murder one member of the church, 35-year-old Mrs. Chioma Oleka at Atta in Ihennasa, Njaba Local Government Area, Imo State, by falsely claiming that she was possessed with a mermaid (marine) spirit.

The Police boss further revealed that on May 25, 2016, Okorie lured Oleka to Nwangele river, where she was to ostensibly undergo special deliverance prayer. The lady drove her Lexus SUV with a Rivers State registration number, KPR 243HF to keep the appointment for prayers and deliverance.

Okorie the pastor suspect revealed what followed thereafter:

“As we were praying on the bridge, I went to the back of the vehicle and picked up a machete. I gave her several cuts all over her body with the intention to kill her. Then I pushed her from the top of the bridge into the river for her to drown.

Some members of my gang, who pretend to be members of my church, who went with me then escaped with the SUV, when we sighted a police patrol team.”

Unfortunately for Okorie and the gang, Oleka miraculously survived the vicious attack and fall into the river as she did not drown. Rather she pretended to have died.

Recalling her fortuitous survival of the horrendous experience she passed through, Oleka said:

“Before this thing happened I had been attending Watered Ground Ministry, the church headed by Pastor Okorie. He always prophesied in the church and one day he said that I had a mermaid (marine or mammywater) spirit. He said I had to go for special deliverance prayer not knowing that he wanted to rob and murder me.

During the prayer session, he suddenly pushed me from the top of the bridge into the river. He gave me machete cuts thinking that I would die. But a police patrol team rescued me, took me to the hospital. I think I have learnt my lesson, that there are many false pastors all over the place; we need God’s intervention.”

After their successful escape from the crime scene, Okorie and his gang members continued their operations for several months thinking that the chapter had been closed on what they did to Oleka.

However, providence was patiently waiting to expose them. That day arrived when Oleka began to recover from the attack while still in the hospital. When she was strong enough to talk with police detectives investigating the case, she recounted what happened and gave the police the registration number of the car.

For a while, the police kept Okorie under surveillance and then moved in to arrest him. During interrogation, he sang like a canary and revealed his alleged past escapades in crime, robbery, kidnapping and murder.

With information obtained from Okorie and the other members of his gang, the police recovered the Lexus SUV as well as the arms and ammunition of the gang.

I’m still a virgin – Halima Abubakar

I’m still a virgin – Halima Abubakar

Halima Abubakar

Controversial Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar is at it again and this time, she has decided to keep tongues wagging when she recently revealed she’s still a virgin.

The chubby and light skinned actress recently got everyone talking when she disclosed that she is not ready to get married, has however changed her language when she said. “I can’t wait to be dis-virgined and have kids, please don’t preach on this post, the world has heard enough quote, sinners will disagree”.

Halima said that marriage is over rated and for that, she might not be getting married. “Marriage has been overrated. It’s unnecessarily overrated. It’s just too much of headache with how things are now.

Even ordinary relationship is a huge burden and heart breaking, let alone marriage. When you can’t stand each other as boyfriend and girlfriend, how would you live together under the same roof when you get married? People need to know themselves seriously. When I say seriously, I mean spiritually, before getting married.

People only know themselves physically, not spiritually, so they end up getting bored with each other. And they will say they don’t want to get divorced because of what society would say after investing so much in the marriage’.

US election: Trump reacts to Muslim father’s jibes

US election: Trump reacts to Muslim father’s jibes

Donald Trump

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has responded to criticism from the father of a Muslim US soldier killed in Iraq.

In an impassioned speech at last week’s Democratic National Convention, Khizr Khan said Trump had sacrificed “nothing and no-one” for his country.

Trump said he had made “a lot of sacrifices” by creating jobs.

But he drew more controversy by mocking Khan’s wife, who had stood silently by her husband’s side as he spoke.

“If you look at his wife, she was standing there,” he said, in an interview with ABC’s This Week. “She had nothing to say… Maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me.”

Ghazala Khan said on Friday that she did not speak because she was still overcome with grief and could not look at her son’s photos without crying.

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Kaine said Trump’s remarks were inappropriate.

“He was kind of trying to turn that into some kind of ridicule,” he said, quoted by AP. “It just demonstrates again kind of a temperamental unfitness. If you don’t have any more sense of empathy than that, then I’m not sure you can learn it.”

Trump’s campaign issued a statement on Saturday in which he praised Khan’s son Humayun.

“Captain Humayun Khan was a hero to our country and we should honour all who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country safe,” he said.

“The real problem here are the radical Islamic terrorists who killed him, and the efforts of these radicals to enter our country to do us further harm.”

But Trump rejected Khan’s criticism.

“While I feel deeply for the loss of his son, Khan, who has never met me, has no right to stand in front of millions of people and claim I have never read the Constitution, (which is false) and say many other inaccurate things,” he said.

In the ABC interview to be broadcast on Sunday, a transcript of which was released by the Trump campaign, Trump was asked what sacrifices he had made.

“I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures,” he said.

“…I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.”

Khizr Khan, 65, told a rapturous crowd on Thursday, the final day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, that his son had sacrificed his life to save those of his fellow soldiers.

Humayun Khan was killed by a car bomb in 2004 at the age of 27, reports the BBC.

If it had been up to Trump, he said, his son would not have been in America.

Khan asked if Trump had “even read the United States Constitution”, and offered to lend him his copy.

Amaechi: Awolowo betrayed Igbos, but it’s time to restructure Nigeria

Amaechi: Awolowo betrayed Igbos, but it’s time to restructure Nigeria

Chief Mbazulike Amaechi is First Republic Minister of Aviation, an elder statesman and one of the three surviving foremost nationalists in Nigeria today. At 87, Amaechi’s mind remains as sharp as ever.

He still manages his small scale factory in his country home in Anambra State, where he tells KENNETH OFOMA his views on some current national issues.

The fiery member of Zikist Movement and a prominent member of the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) and later National Convention of Nigerian Citizens (NCNC), speaks about the urgent need to halt the nation’s fast slide to disintegration through dialogue and restructuring of the polity

There has been increasing clamour for restructuring of the country in recent times. But the Chairman of Northern Elders Council, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai has warned the Igbos against falling for what he called the Yoruba bait for restructuring, saying that was how the Yoruba tricked the Igbos into civil war. What is your take on restructuring?

Let me say I have read the comments or statements of Alhaji Tanko Yakassai. I want it to be clear, Tanko is a very, very close friend of mine and we share similar views on major political issues in Nigeria.

This has been from before independence when he was a leading figure in the Northern Elements Progressives Union (NEPU), and I was a prominent figure also in the National Convention for Nigerian Citizens (NCNC). Since then we have been close friends and comrades.

His statement that I read in the paper about what Chief Obafemi Awolowo did before the commencement of the secession and the following civil war, Biafra, is correct.

It was a betrayal because in his (Awo’s) private discussions with (Chukwuemeka Odumegwu) Ojukwu, he encouraged Ojukwu to secede and made it public that immediately Biafra seceded, Yoruba land would follow.

Well, I wouldn’t know what he reported to (Yakubu) Gowon who sent him to meet Ojukwu at Onitsha, but it would appear that what he reported to Gowon was that ‘if Biafra was allowed to secede, then Yoruba would also secede’; which means that everything must be done to stop Biafra seceding. It is quite a different thing from saying immediately you go, we will follow.

That was a double talk and a betrayal. Be that as it may, in Nigerian politics, the Igbos and the North had on major democratic dispensations worked together. In the First Republic, the NCNC of Dr. (Nnamdi) Azikiwe worked in a coalition government with the Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) of Sardauna of Sokoto.

This working together was peaceful until 1964 when a faction of the Action Group lead by Akintola opted to go and work with the Sardauna of Sokoto in displacement of the NCNC.

And it appeared that Sardauna welcomed the idea, the crisis that followed Awolowo’s imprisonment and the crisis in the Western House of Assembly and ‘Operation Wetie’ incident in the West led to a major split and crisis. Eventually, the military took over the government of the country.

And the North and the West joined together to fight the East. Again, in 1979, the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) formed an alliance with the Nigeria Peoples Party (NPP).

NPP was lead by Zik and controlled the Igbo states and Plateau and there was peace in the country until 1983 when NPP decided to go into what they called the ‘Progressives Alliance’ with Awolowo, Waziri Ibrahim and Balarabe Musa. Again jettisoning the NPN, there was trouble in the country and the military stepped in again in 1983.

Today, it is the Yorubas and the North. When we were in the NCNC, in the First Republic, even though we were in alliance with the North, we did not deny Yorubaland what was due to them.

They had their ministers, they had all the appointments due them and the economy was managed equitably. That is the difference now. The difference now is that we have Yoruba- Northern government, the idea now is to make Igbo a slave part of the country and this is totally unacceptable to Ndigbo.

The younger elements can no longer tolerate the situation where they are said to belong to a country but the country does not recognise them as full citizens of that country.

Then on the restructuring of the country…?

Talking about restructuring, I don’t think my friend Yakassai got it right. The idea of restructuring was as a result of agitation that there should be a renegotiation of the basis of the federation, because of imbalances, inequities and injustices noticed.

The past last government of Goodluck Jonathan arranged a national conference; I wasn’t a member of the national conference, Ohanaeze put up my name and Mrs. Azikiwe’s name.

I heard Ohanaeze President told us that the governor of Anambra State deleted my name and Mrs. Azikiwe’s name from the list of delegates to the conference. Whether it was true or not, I wasn’t there, but the conference decided that Nigeria should be restructured and they made some specific recommendations.

The North had appropriate representatives at the conference presided over by a northerner. So to say that restructuring is a demand of the Yorubas and that they are inciting the Igbos to follow suit is not a true statement.

I think Yakassai got the sequence and the position a little mixed up here. The true position now is that even if the conference did not recommend restructuring, every patriotic Nigerian, every sensible Nigerian, every objective Nigerian should know that this country is crumbling; that there is no more that mutual confidence that makes us a family in the country.

The South-East is totally neglected, ignored and is being treated as the slave part of the country.

The South-South is suffering crisis; you have the Avengers crisis; you have the MEND crisis, you have the militant crisis there. And these crises, the organisers have some specific demands, then the whole demands, all hinge and border on the fact that there is improper amalgamation or improper arrangement of the basis of the federation of the country.

If the government of the country decides to ignore what is going on in the South- South and the South East and chose to go ahead that it doesn’t matter, I don’t think it’s a proper way a government should look at the situation. There is real danger in this country and people must accept it, the government must come down to dialogue.

The word is dialogue. What is required, what is important now is for people to talk; government should not say ‘we are government, we are not going to talk to anybody, we will oppress you; we will suppress you with the force of military and so forth’, It won’t work.

It would lead to loss of lives and destruction of things. Look at the destruction going on in the Niger Delta area now. It’s all affecting the economy of the country and government refuses to face and see reality. The reality is that people are not satisfied and the destruction is growing.

Talking about the Yorubas and the North, a very substantial part of the Yorubas is not happy. The government of Nigeria now appears to be a government of a particular region ruling the whole country. Look at all the appointments, in the military, in the armed forces, in the civil service, in political appointments.

All of them are going to one side of the country and people pretend that all is well. Yes, those Yorubas who are there in the government will receive their salaries, they will give them money and so forth, but the whole country is smoldering, this country is at the edge of a declivity that cannot be controlled.

There is need for the government to arrange for people to come together and talk frankly as members of a family, how to correct the errors and how to be one.

Are you suggesting another conference?

By whatever way, but there is need for people of Nigeria to come together; they will review the report of the last conference. People should review the report of last conference and build something and add something or subtract something and then recommend.

Could you look at it this way that the hardship in the country is as a result of recession which appears to be global in the sense that the price of crude oil has slumped and Nigeria is a mono-product economy?

Yes there is hardship which is caused by the general decline in the economy of the country and the world. But there is also the crisis of the management of what we have. I was a minister in the government that ran this country for six years when there was no oil.

We did not depend on oil, there was no oil in our time but Nigeria was vibrant, the economy was buoyant and everybody was happy until the unpatriotic military intervention in the affairs of government in this country and the military stayed for as long as 38 years.

And so, pushing in corruption and stealing, the military government introduced this massive stealing in this country. And the recovery of the stolen property and even the checking of stealing and corruption in the country is not progressive.

The government has been in power for one year now, not a single case has been successfully prosecuted in any court of law, including the cases that arose even in Olusegun Obasanjo era, in the Goodluck Jonathan era; many governors who were sent to court for stealing in millions and billions of the wealth of their states are still senators there now.

The cases are no longer mentioned. The same thing is about happening now.

Could this be why the President has said that the judiciary is the problem of the fight against corruption?

I support the President’s statement that the judiciary is not helping the situation, the President is right with that statement.

Is it also the duty of Mr. President to send some bills for possible judicial reforms to create special courts for corruption cases as some people have suggested?

There are so many cases of corruption, there are so many people involved, and if you set up one special court for that it will still take a longer time. But the present Federal High Courts are spread all over the country; you see we don’t want to set up a parallel judicial system; we can still manage with the present courts in the country.

The only thing is that the judges and the lawyers are doing their job; where a case is too bad for their clients they buy time. It is the duty of the judges to stop that in their own courts.

A judge should be able to sit down and say no, we are not going to give you this adjournment. But look at all their judgments in the cases, even starting from those of 2009, 2010, and so forth.

Let’s digress a little to Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Many people are saying that Igbos are not united and cannot speak with one voice, they are easily divided along party lines unlike the North that will always speak with one voice irrespective of party affiliations. What role do you think Ohanaeze can play to help Igbo come together?

You see, Ohanaeze has a problem of leadership. The present leadership of Ohanaeze does not command respect and it is not doing its work. It is said Nemo dat quod non habet, (nobody can give what he doesn’t have). They are doing the best they can but their best is not good enough for the present situation in the country.

In our own time, we had the NCNC and the Action Group and the NPC and so forth, but whenever there was an issue of common interest to the whole of Igbo land, we used to come together across party lines and discuss Igbo question. But that is not the situation now.

What of the role of the Igbo governors?

The Igbo governors are not helping the situation. They don’t see themselves as leaders elected by the various states to lead them; they see themselves as administrators who are to administer a government and wield power. They are not interested in the overall interest of the people; they are only interested in governmental matters and so forth.

So they don’t see themselves as leaders of the people. It is the governors who should initiate some actions and if it is a respected leadership of Ohanaeze the governors will oblige. But the leadership of Ohanaeze is defective as at now, that is the problem.

What is your advice to leaders at the federal level who appear unconcerned about so many objective criticisms about the way things are going, particularly besides the President, even people like Alhaji Yakassai and the northern elders?

Well, I have been in this country, I have been in government, I have been in politics. I’m retired but I’m not apolitical. And in the whole country now, of the people who lead Nigeria in government in the First Republic, only three of us are still remaining. Shehu Shagari, Maitama Sule and myself, only three of us in the whole country.

If people don’t want to listen to us, if people don’t want to hear us, to consult us, to seek our views, well they are ignoring us to their peril.

But if you look at what is happening in the Niger Delta area, if you come to watch what is happening in Igboland now, if you want to watch what is happening in Borno, Adamawa and North-East area now, and also then you put into it the new army in Nigeria known as the Fulani cattle rearers; who are armed to the teeth with the most sophisticated military weapons Who provides the weapons? Who trained them on how to use the weapons?

And why is the government led by a Fulani man keeping silent? What is happening? Is the government aware of what is happening? Is the government encouraging the Fulanis to invade certain Christian areas and kill them?

They come and kill and nobody talks! On the part of Igbo leaders and politicians now, I say are they cowardly or are they mercenary or are they naïve? At Onitsha the other day, soldiers opened fire at Nkpor in a church and killed people and when they kill these people they take them away.

The traditional Igbo system says that “isi nwonye Igbo adighi ato na mba, isi nwonye Igbo adighi efu efu” (the head of an Igbo man does get lost or missing in Diaspora); but these people kill and take away.

They did it at Aba, killed the Igbos there, the young men there, and took their bodies away. And then the Igbo religious leaders, Igbo politicians, Igbo leaders of thought are keeping quiet, they won’t even talk.

I’m not asking them to be violent, because violence does not solve any problem, but the President sees all these things and appears not to bother about them. One day the fire might spread so much that he cannot control it again.

We have lost so many lives in this country; we have got so many property destroyed in this country, the infrastructure is decaying, unemployment is growing in this country, poverty is growing in the country, investment is no longer coming into the country;

something must be done, government must control it and not just playing politics by issuing press releases and or appearing that it is a situation where a section of the country has now conquered the whole country and they are now ruling the whole country.

That is the impression they are giving now.
