DANJUMA GOJE

A huge sum of N18 million, $19,000 USD, 4,000 Saudi Riyals were discovered as heavily armed security men numbering about 40 have invaded the residence of the chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe).

It was gathered according to Daily Trust that the security men comprising policemen and others stormed the number 10 Haile Selassie Street, Asokoro District, Asokoro, residence of the former governor around 4.pm yesterday.

The security operatives arrived in five operational vans and a bus combed the gigantic residence of Goje, a close ally of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki told our reporter.

We learned from our source that the operation lasted till around 8.pm when this report was being filed.

Efforts to speak to Goje through phone yielded no result as his mobile phone was switched off. However one of aides said Goje was in the National Assembly attending a meeting on the 2017 budget.

It was gathered that the raid followed tip off by a whistleblower of presence of a large volume of cash in the residence. A family source said N18 million, $19,000 USD, 4,000 Saudi Riyals were found in Goje’s house.

“You cannot get him because he is in National Assembly attending a meeting on the 2017 budget. It is true that his house has been ransacked by the police men.

“As I’m talking to you they are moving from one room to the other. You know the house is very big, so we were told that they have broken into many rooms,” a source said.

He added that, “We don’t know what they are looking for in the house but they have broken into many rooms”

Goje was the governor of Gombe state between 2003 and 2011. He has a case at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, however, said the agency was not involved in the operation.

Goje, our correspondent gathered is coordinating the collation of the report on the 2017 budget by both chambers of the National Assembly.

The report is expected to be laid next Tuesday when the federal lawmakers would be resuming from their Easter break.
