A Jigawa State Magistrates’ Court has remanded former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido in prison over allegations of inciting statements and disturbance to peace and security.
The Presiding Judge Chief Magistrate Usman Muhammad Lamin of the Chief Magistrate’s Court 2, who was furious at a plea by the accused’s counsel to temper justice with mercy and release Lamido on health ground, said he needed time to study the bail application and an FIR brought in as evidence.

Sule Lamido is facing a four-count charge of inciting disturbance contrary to section 114 of the panel code, disturbance of public peace contrary to section 113 of the panel code, defamation of character punishable under section 392 of the panel code and Criminal Intimidation punishable under section 397 of the state’s penal code.
Meanwhile, police fired some teargas canisters to disperse hundreds of Lamido supporters who thronged the court shouting “sai Lamido”.
