The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has disclosed that it has trained 1,500 personnel to tackle the crisis between herdsmen and farmers, Daily Trust reports.

The development was made public by the commandant general of the corps, Gana Muhammadu, during the decoration ceremony of newly promoted personnel on Wednesday, February 7 in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

We gather that Muhammadu stated that part of the newly-trained personnel would be deployed to ensure the success of the agro-rangers programme, while others would be sent to Borno.

He stated: "Just last week Friday, 1,500 of our men graduated from a three months arms training in preparation for the commencement of agro-rangers and solid minerals protection.

"And part of which we also intend to deploy to Borno to join the earlier 3,700 of our men posted to liberated areas in the north-east."

The commandant general also charged the newly-promoted personnel not to disappoint the federal government, who he stated, had worked to ensure their promotion.

In his words: "So, you must not fail the federal government and the board who ensured your promotion.”

Also speaking at the occasion, Abdulrahman Dambazzau, minister of interior, who was represented at the event by Bassey Emmanuel, charged the officers to work hard and remain loyal to their superiors, their organization and the nation.

He stated: "With your promotion, you must continue to work harder. Again, you must be loyal to your organisation, to the nation and all those that have been placed above you."
