Ojukwu’s son blasts Obiano over defection to APC

Ojukwu’s son blasts Obiano over defection to APC

Emeka Ojukwu Jr

Emeka Ojukwu Jnr, who’s the son of the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu, has asked the Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano, to stop worrying himself over his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that he has no plans not return to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Ojukwu had during President Buhari’s visit to Anambra State for the grand finale campaign of the APC candidate for the November 18 Anambra governorship election, Dr Tony Nwoye, dumped APGA for the APC.

Obiano was recently reported to have described Emeka Ojukwu’s defection to APC as of no consequence, insisting that he had no political relevance in the state.

But speaking with journalists in Awka on Monday, Ojukwu said he was toeing his father’s steps in ensuring that the Igbos were launched back to the mainstream politics of the country.

He recalled how his father joined the National Party of Nigeria shortly after he returned from exile in 1982 instead of the Nigeria Peoples Party, insisting that the Igbo would not benefit anything by wallowing in sentiment.

He said: “I can afford to stay back in APGA and wallow in sentimental politics that the party belongs to the Igbo, but in the long run, what becomes of our tomorrow and place in the great Nigeria project, for which our forefathers laboured, invested their time, talent and even their blood?

“Which is preferable: to be a big fish in a small pond or a big fish in the ocean? Real champions are never afraid of the big league. That could be why late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo asserted that if you could reason beyond ethnic sentiments, you are a liability to mankind. Ndigbo are not better off with emotional politics,” he said.

Ojukwu further blasted the Anambra governor.

“So, while they seek to crucify me for joining APC, they express support and solidarity for the APC leader. Which is worse, to walk the talk or pander to politics of deceit and duplicity?

What is the essence of being in a party that would rather support the presidential candidate of another party than choose its own?

“Ndigbo having supported Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan in office, owe President Buhari a duty of support in the spirit of fairness and political goodwill so that when a president of Igbo extraction will emerge other ethnic groups will reciprocate,” he added.
