Breaking: Former Lagos police boss Fatai Owoseni becomes new CP for Benue

The inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris, has appointed the former Lagos state commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni, as the new commissioner of police, Benue state command.

Vanguard reports that Owoseni will replace Bashir Makama as the new CP in the state.

Recall that Owoseni was replaced as the Lagos CP by the current Lagos police boss, Imohimi Edgal, in September last year.

However, the appointment and deployment of Owoseni to Benue may be part of the police IG’s strategic plan to deal with the recent attacks by herdsmen in the state.

Owoseni, given his records, may have been sent to Benue to tackle the insecurity in the state.

We previously reported that Ibrahim Idris reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to apprehend and prosecute perpetrators of New Year killings in Benue.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, January 9 ordered the IGP to move to Benue, to restore law and order and forestall the crisis from escalating.

Idris promised to take appropriate action against anyone carrying arms around.

He enjoined the people to give the police actionable intelligence that would lead to further arrest of criminal elements.

The police chief, who kicked against the clamour for deployment of the military, said they could only intervene when the police was overwhelmed.
