Anambra Election: How foreigners with Nigerian voters cards and national identity cards planned to infiltrate election - NIS reveals

Anambra Election: State Immigration Command retrieves voters cards, national identity cards from foreigners

- The Comptroller of Immigration, Anambra state command, Ekpedeme King, disclosed that the command had retrieved the documents from the foreign nationals and also repatriated the individuals

- He warned that any foreigner caught subverting the electoral process will not just be deported, but will be tried according to Nigeria’s electoral laws

- King advised all foreigners resident in Nigeria to respect the country’s laws, culture and tradition and stay away from meddling in its electoral process

The retrieval of several voters cards, national identity cards and Anambra state identity cards from foreigners in the state, has been announced by the Comptroller of Immigration, Anambra state command, Ekpedeme King.

According to reports, this development comes ahead of the November 18 gubernatorial elections scheduled to hold in the state. It was disclosed by the immigration boss as he addressed officers of the command and leaders of various associations of ECOWAS nationals in the state on Thursday, August 10.

He stated: “The foreign holders of these documents have been repatriated and the retrieved documents will be forwarded to the Immigration Service Headquarters for further action.

“The Command wishes to state it clear that no foreigner should allow himself or herself to be used to meddle in the forthcoming electoral process in the state through persuasion, coercion, harassment, intimidation duress, inducement or outright bribery.

“Such meddlesomeness is not acceptable in any part of the world and therefore the associations have been requested to warn their compatriots that any foreigner that is caught subverting the electoral process will not just be deported but will be tried according to the country’s electoral laws; if convicted, jailed then deported after serving his or her sentence”.

King advised foreigners to respect the country’s laws, culture and tradition as he encouraged the associations to get their compatriots to document their stay at the Immigration offices in the 21 Local Government areas.

Meanwhile, We previously reported that Willie Obiano, the governor of Anambra state, took a swipe at John Odigie-Oyegun, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over comments made by the latter concerning the upcoming elections in the state.

Obiano was reacting to a comment attributed to Oyegun, that the governor should “write his handing over notes and start preparing to vacate office.”

The governor stated that the APC chairman does not have any moral authority to speak on good governance in the country.
