Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly dumped the party after accusing the government of President Muhammadu Buhari as incompetent and corrupt.

Baba-Ahmed, who was a member of the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 and later senator under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011, said he had returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Premium Times reports that Baba-Ahmed on Thursday, November 29, informed the chairman of Tudun Wada ward in Zaria Local Government Area that he was leaving the APC.

His resignation letter was hand-written and he did not give any reason for his decision according to the report.

However, the report said he later spoke in a telephone interview saying he intentionally refused to give his reason.

“Buhari’s government is incompetent and corrupt…the government is lying,” he said when he was reminded of the effort of the administration to curb corruption.

“The government of Buhari was established by looted funds and over 80% are from the PDP, his so called fight against corruption is a ruse,” he said.

He reportedly accused the APC of lacking principle and vision as well as any concrete plans for Nigeria.

He noted that eight percent of the current APC members are from the PDP.

“And they are the same people who destroyed Nigeria in the last 18 years and they are now in APC,” he said.

We note that the ex-lawmaker resigned days after former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, left the APC and described President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as a big threat to national unity.

Atiku had written the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) intimating the party of his decision to quit.

Though the letter was dated October 18, 2017, the national leadership of the party had last Friday denied receiving any such notice from the former vice president.

We also earlier reported that the former governor of Kano state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was reportedly under intense pressure to leave the APC.

This is as political alignments continue ahead of the 2019 general election even though President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to declare any interest in re-election.
