Osinbajo, Saraki others dignitaries receive Ewkueme

The remains of the former Vice president Alex Ekwueme arrived the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Aziiwe International Airport, Abuja on Monday.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo leading government functionaries to receive it.

The body which arrived onboard a British Airways flight was later handed to the facility by the vice president. He was later flown on a military aircraft to his home town in Anambra state.

Prof. Osinbajo in his brief remarks during the Parade of Honour at the airport said, “As we receive his body this morning, we are reminded of his selfless service to nation, to our region, to Africa and indeed the world.”

“We are reminded of his commitment to timeless ideals of integrity, of loyalty and of kindness to all. We thank the almighty God for giving us 85 years life of Dr Ekwueme.

When he was asked what his vision is for the country, he said, ‘I would want to see Nigeria be a nation, not just a country.’ Those words tell us how committed he was to the unity of this country and I pray that in death and as we remember him, that this would not only encourage us but also cement the relationship between all of the peoples and nationalities of this country so that we could become and remain one” the Vice President noted.

Dr Emma Okeke, Deputy Governor of Anambra State, in a brief chat with newsmen said “I think, what we all need is to be steadfast, if you believe in something do it and continue to stand out. Ekwueme is a man who always stand by what he believes in.’

He said the state would be immortalizing the late former vice president after his burial, adding that the governor would decide the when the immortalization would happen.
