President Buhari appoints Tinubu as mediator in APC crisis

As part of on-going efforts to improve cohesion within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari has designated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts in the party.

Tinubu's experience in politicking is expected to galvanise APC members across the nation to unite ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The assignment will involve resolving disagreements among party members, party leadership and political office holders in some states of the federation.
President Buhari apparently trusts the political experience of Asiwaju Tinubu to put an end to the APC crisis.
At the moment, the ruling party has been rocked with internal crisis in virtually all states where it has control.
Prominent among the disagreements is
1. Senator Kwankwaso vs Governor Ganduje in Kano state
2. Speaker Dogara vs Governor Abubakar in Bauchi state
3. Governor El-Rufai vs Senator Shehu Sani in Kaduna state
4. Governor Yari and Senator Marafa in Zamfara state
5. Minister Shittu and Governor Ajimobi in Oyo state
6. APC national Chairman Oyegun and former Governor Oshiomole in Edo state among others
Tinubu, 65, is highly respected in the APC's party hierarchy and has always muscled his way through political logjams in the past.

Recently, six zonal chairmen of the APC challenged the leadership style of Oyegun, especially in the handling of the finance.
The chairmen are Chief Pius Akinyelure (southwest), Comrade Mustapha Salihu (northeast), Alhaji Zakari Idde (north central), Inuwa Abdulkadir (northwest), Honourable Emma Eneukwu (southeast) and Ntufam Hilliard Eta (south south).
They made the allegation in a petition on dated Wednesday, January 17, addressed to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) accusing the Oyegun leadership of lacking transparency.
They also raised four key areas which included the finances of the party, formation of ad-hoc committees, abandonment of the zones and change of party structures.
