One of the reporters covering the office of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister and a staff of the New Telegraph in Abuja Bureau office, Mr. Yekeen Nurudeen was attacked by a four-man armed robbery gang at his residence in Garam, outskirts of Bwari area council.
It was gathered that the incident happened at about 9:45 pm, when dare devil robbers- armed invaded his house with sophisticated guns and a pistol, after they jumped over the fence, to gain access into the premises.
While narrating his ordeal yesterday, the terribly traumatized journalists, said the robbers who on entering his house started demanding for money also requested for the key of his Toyota Camry car, adding that they ordered him to where the car was packed to verify if the car was protected by security code.
“I was with my wife in the sitting room at about 9:45pm, watching television, while charging my phones and IPad for Monday’s work when suddenly I heard my dog barking. I peeped through the window and I saw someone trying to jump into the compound through the fence.
“Before I could understand what was happening, four heavily armed men were already inside my house demanding for money, dollars and threatening to kill me and my wife if we did not give them the money they were demanding for,” he said.
Yekeen, who also covers the Ministry of Education and Labour as assigned beats, said after handing over the money he had kept for his family upkeep ahead of the new week, the robbers took his two Torch BlackBerry phones, a Techno IPad, as well as another IPad belonging to his wife, her jewelries and other valuable items.
“They took my car and I have my laptop inside the car, my two digital recorders, digital camera, my international passport was also inside the car because I used it recently. My hands were tied backward and legs were also tied, while my mouth was also gagged. When the robbers finished the operation, they locked me in my bedroom.
“They did the same thing to my wife, while my seven year old son watched as we were being tied down. When they finished, after one of them kicked my head and face severally, asking if I did not know they were coming, .
“I was glad that when all this dreadful things were going on, my elder daughter did not wake up throughout the operation,” said Yekeen whose one side of his head was swollen from the kicks.
The robbers, according to him also robbed three other houses in his neighborhood and left a vigilante member dead after the operation that lasted about five hours in the area without the intervention of the Police.
He said the incident has since been reported at Kuduru Police and Sabon Wuse Police stations respectively, noting that there is no report on the stolen car.
