Operatives of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) at the Delta State Police Command at the weekend raided illegal an arms manufacturing workshop in Obiaruku, Ukwuani LGA and arrested a middle-aged woman and two of her neigbhours.
Police public relations officer in the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, who confirmed their arrest of the suspects, said the detectives acted on a tip-off, and arrested Patience Okoh and two of her neigbhours.
According to her, the SARS operatives uncovered many cut-to-size guns, electric cutting machines, filling machines, and generating sets used for the manufacturing of guns.
Mrs. Kalu said that efforts were being made to arrest the principal operator of the manufacturing company, saying that the SARS detectives also recovered charms put into various cellophane bags at the place.
In a related development, the police in Obiaruku community have arrested a civil servant, Esther Ossai, claimed to be staff of DESOPADEC for allegedly vandalizing the independent power plant transmission line in Ndokwa East LGA of the state.
Mrs. Kalu said that the suspect was arrested following a report by one of the oil servicing companies in the area, disclosing that efforts were being made to arrest her accomplices.
Meanwhile, the state commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mrs. Beatrice Irabor, has warned criminal persons operating in the state, particularly pipeline vandals, to stay out of the state or repent, saying that operatives of the NSCDC had marching orders to deal with the criminals.
“Our men have been put in strategic places across the state to arrest all criminally persons especially pipeline vandals and I also want to warn strongly those involved in the act of pipeline vandalism to desist from such act as we are fully mobilized to bring them to book,” she said.
