Command arrests suspected killers of Rivers’ DPO

The suspects

TWO members of a gang that allegedly killed the Divisional Police Officer of Rumuokoro division, Mr. Cliff Igwegbe, have been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command.

This is just as security operatives killed four suspected kidnappers during a shootout, while one Ken Livinus, who was abducted on Saturday, was rescued.

Igwegbe, a Chief Superintendent of Police, and his team were on a mission to confront some robbers, who had stolen a vehicle belonging to the lawmaker representing Emohua State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Mr. Samuel Ogeh, on November 29, 2015.

However, the state police command said it arrested one Prince Essien (30) and Hosanna Nse (23) during a shootout with members of the gang at their hideout in Ada George, Port Harcourt.

The leader of the gang, identified as Clever Idaminabor (27) ,was said to have been shot dead during the gun battle.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Musa Kimo, said the two armed robbers confessed to being members of the gang that killed the DPO.

Kimo said two AK-47 rifles, one assault rifle, 119 rounds of live ammunition and seven magazines were recovered from the suspects.

He said, “The two notorious armed robbers ─ Prince Essien (30), and Hosanna Nse (23) ─ confessed to have been involved in series of armed robberies and kidnappings in Port Harcourt and its environs, including the recent killing of CSP Cliff Igwegbe, who until his death, was the Divisional Police Officer of Rumuokoro division.

“Their leader, Clever Idaminabor was killed in the shootout that ensued when policemen raided their hideout on Location Road, Ada George, Port Harcourt.”

On the suspected kidnappers, the CP explained that a Toyota Lexus belonging to the victim, Ken Livinus, and a Golf Volkswagen belonging to the kidnappers, three locally-made pistols, were among items recovered by security operatives.

“Following a distress call received on December 12, about 4am from a patriotic Nigerian that kidnappers had abducted one Ken Livinus at Rukpokwu and driven him away in his Toyota Lexus jeep, teams of policemen quickly responded and pursued the fleeing kidnappers who were heading towards Aluu/Airport Road and engaged them.

“The confrontation led to the safe rescue of the victim, while the four unidentified kidnappers were killed,” the CP added.
