Court Of Appeal delivers Judgement On Wike's Election

Nyesom Wike

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has reportedly delivered judgment on the Rivers state governorship election held on April 11.

According to report, the appeal court has upheld the ruling of the tribunal, therefore, Governor Nyesom Wike’s election stands nullified.

Sahara Reporters reports that the seven issues raised by Governor Wike has been resolved by the court against him and in favour of Dakuku Peterside, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate.

In a 110-page ruling delivered by Justice M.B. Dongban-Mensem the court ruled that Wike’s election did not conform with the electoral act.

The Court therefore, has ordered a rerun in 90 days.

The tribunal headed by Justice Suleiman Ambrosa had in a judgment on October 24, 2015, nullified Wike’s election and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh election.

Wike had challenged the verdict of the tribunal, as he filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal,  asking the court to set aside the  judgment  of  the Rivers state governorship election tribunal  which voided his election.
