Eighteen graduands of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State, who bagged First Class degree in the 2013/2014 academic session were at the weekend offered automatic employment into the state civil service.

This was disclosed by the Governor of the State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko at the sixth convocation ceremony of the institution.

The Governor noted that it is a deliberate policy of his administration to give automatic employment to outstanding students at the state-owned institution.

He explained that this would serve as encouragement for undergraduate students in the institution to pay more attention to their studies.

Mimiko acknowledged the positive impacts made by university in churning out viable manpower for the nation.

The Governor also commended graduates of the institution for making the state proud home and abroad, stressing that this justifies the vision of the school to produce to the labour markets graduates that are certified in learning and character.

He hinged the huge investment of his administration in the education sector on the drive to make education affordable to the people of the state, particularly the state university, which he said emerged twice as the best state university in the country in 2005 and 2013.

Mimiko lauded three honorees: Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, Chief Bisi Ogunjobi, the President and former Vice President of African Development Bank respectively, who got Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa; and the Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan, who was awarded Doctor of Letters Honoris Causa

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun lamented the financial crisis affecting the economy of the country, which he said is also slowing down developmental efforts of the university.

He asserted the institution resolved to look inward and reach out to other external sources and seek support from donors.

According to him: “As a university, we look forward to 2015/2016 academic session with hope. We are confident in God that our projections for the new session will add tremendous value to the university.

“We are resolved to continue to produce globally competitive, technology-savvy. Entrepreneurship-driven and socially responsible graduates, who are problem solvers in a resource-challenged world. We are poised to be the nation’s face of excellence through the promotion and sustenance of the Adekunle Ajasin University brand.”
