An upsurge in the demand for evening wears has propelled a frontline fashion house in Lagos to look inwards to meet the needs of today’s upwardly mobile women. Victoria Ibe, the Managing Director of Victorious Boutique, a clothing company, based in Ikota Shopping Complex recently launched Victorious evening session and it was an opportunity to know her favourites. Excerpts:
What’s your favorite colour?
Red. Maybe because I’m dark, it brightens me up. I love red. I cannot get tired of red.
Favorite food?
Rice. I can eat rice everyday and I won’t be tired of it. But for the past 2 years, I’ve been eating Nigerian rice, (ofada). For me it tastes better and I understand it’s more nourishing.
Favourite weather?
I love rainy season; harmattan is too harsh for me.
Favourite holiday spot?
New York. The place is bubbling and you can’t get tired of New York. Another good place is Houston. Houston is good, it’s like home. Go to church, you will see your people. You will see people that would call you on the street because they knew you from Nigeria and their weather is good like ours.
Favorite designer?
I love Tadashi Shogi, an American designer. I think he’s an Asian man based in Los Angeles, USA. I bought almost all their stock.
Favourite Nigerian designer?
None. I don’t wear Nigerian outfits. Maybe it’s because of what I sell. Nigerian outfits are cumbersome. I’m a very simple person. I love simple things. I love simple dresses, so I find Nigerian wears too much.
Favorite book?
Holy Bible. I love the Bible. I learn a lot everyday I read the bible and I’m wiser.
Favorite quote?
I don’t know if this is a quote. I have been in business for 19 years and I discovered budding businessmen/ women lack integrity. Integrity is the only way to the top, there is no other way.
