One dead, four injured in Delta road crash

One person was confirmed dead while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a multiple accident involving a Dangote Truck, a Mack tanker and a Toyota Hiace bus.

The accident occurred by the Mechanic Village, Asaba axis of the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha expressway.

This is coming barely two weeks when over nine persons were roasted to death in a multiple accident involving a Dangote truck, Volkswagen car and Mutsibushi bus close to the Asaba Airport along the same route.

Although the cause of the latest accident was not yet known as at the time of filing this report, eyewitness said there was a collision between the vehicles involved that resulted in the casualties.

According to the eyewitness, angry mob had attempted to set the Dangote truck ablaze but were resisted by security operatives who were on ground to quell the crisis.

“Irate youths would have burnt the Dangote truck if not for the policemen. They were angry probably because of the impression that Dangote trucks have allegedly been responsible for most of the accidents on this road,” the source said.

An official of the Delta State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who pleaded not to be named in print confirmed the accident.

The FRSC official told our correspondent that the dead victim has been deposited at the mortuary while the injured victims including one male and three females were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
