A Catholic Bishop has forced a politician who fought another politician in public to apologize to a packed congregation in church.
A Kenyan Member of Parliament, Cecily Mbarire who was caught on camera fighting with Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti during a political rally at Karurumo market has been forced to apologize in front of a packed congregation in church.
The Kenyans reports that on Sunday, the legislator was forced to apologise for her actions during a church service led by Bishop Paul Kariuki of the Embu Catholic Diocese. The Bishop had threatened that as a church they would not vote for violent politicians, a remark that undoubtedly pushed Ms Mbarire to apologise.
"For those who use violence in next year’s campaigns as witnessed last Sunday, I will write a letter saying we will just pray for them and deny them votes,” Bishop Kariuki was quoted by the Nation.
He challenged the aspiring Embu Governor to promise locals that she would shun violence during campaigns.
Following the Bishop's warning, Ms Mbarire sought to cleanse herself stating: “I have heard what the bishop has said. Let me say that I was visited by the devil on Sunday. When you meet the devil you must face him head on but I will not repeat that again.”
Ms Mbarire and Senator Kivuti got into a physical altercation after both expressed their intention to vie for the governor's seat under the newly launched Jubilee Party.
Police were forced to intervene and break what was almost turning into a physical fight between the two legislators. Amid the confrontation, their supporters turned rowdy and begun tearing apart each other's placards. She has now apologized for the misconduct.
