“We call for calm as investigations have commenced,” the Ugandan Police Force said.
The Ugandan Police Spokesman was shot dead outside his home as he prepared to attend an event in the capital, Kampala.
Police said he was reportedly heading to the Uganda Christian University, Mukono campus, when he was shot dead alongside his two bodyguards.
Meanwhile, his killing followed the release of a damning investigation by Human Rights Watch (HRW) on the alleged killing by security forces of some 150 civilians in Kasese.
Police stormed the traditional Palace of King Wesley Mambewa following the shooting incident with Palace guards.
However, the Ugandan Police said it was reacting to armed separatists when it raided the Palace.
Several civilians were killed during the armed raid.
HRW claimed its investigation revealed 150 people, including 15 children, were killed during the attack, reports PANA.
The Ugandan government, which confirmed the death of 62 people, later confirmed that no fewer than 102 people were killed during the November 2016 raid.
Ugandan police said the killings was a subject of an ongoing investigation.
According to local media reports, police have charged some of the Palace guards arrested during the raid with various offences, including treason and murder.
