Emir Sanusi releases his April salary payslip
- The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has uploaded his April pay slip on Instagram
- The monarch says during the colonial times, the Emir of Kano was the highest paid public office holder in Nigeria
- Investigations on the monarch’s finances is fueling rumours that some northern elites want the the Emir of Kano removed
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who is under investigation on suspicion of embezzlement has posted details of his salary for April 2017 on social media.
The Emir uploaded the information on Tuesday morning, May 2, via his verified Instagram account.
The pay slip was uploaded with the caption: "Pay slip it is..1,246,875.00 net, against the alleged 12 million monthly by some online publications. "Although during colonial times, the Emir of Kano was the highest paid public office holder in Nigeria.”
According to the payslip, Sanusi earned a gross income of N1,312,500 with a deduction of N62,625.
Sanusi’s net income for April amounted to N1,246,875.

The rumour is sequel to a probe by anti-corruption investigators into the account of the Emir to ascertain whether the monarch mismanaged funds as alleged in some quarters.

We recall that the head of the anti-corruption unit in the northern state of Kano, Muhyi Magaji, had disclosed that investigations into the accounts of the monarch was ongoing.
As part of the investigations, Magaji said the treasurer and secretary of the state-funded royal court have been summoned for questioning on Tuesday, May 2.
We learnt that a source familiar with the investigation said the probe centred on the use of six billion naira ($19 million, 17 million euros) of palace funds to pay for luxury cars, chartered flights, phone and internet bills as well as other personal expenses.
However, the emirate council has denied the allegations of embezzlement leveled against his royal highness, Emir Sanusi.
