Minister discloses if Nnamdi Kanu will be rearrested as he says IPOB leader has violated his bail conditions

Minister discloses if Nnamdi Kanu will be rearrested as he says IPOB leader has violated his bail conditions

Nnamdi Kanu’s fate will eventually be decided by the Court - Abdulrahman Dambazau

- Lt-Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau stated that while Kanu may have violated his bail conditions, the time has not yet come for him to return to court

- He stated that the police would not go after the IPOB leader to arrest him for violating his bail conditions because it is the court that would determine to what extent the violations occurred

- The minister stressed that Kanu’s fate has to be determined by the court, because it was the court that laid down the conditions for bail in the first place

Lt-Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd), Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, stated that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has violated his bail conditions.

According to reports, Dambazau made his comments on Friday August 11 while speaking at a news conference in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

We noted that the minister stressed that upon resumption of Kanu’s trial, the court would decide to what extent the IPOB leader violated the conditions given to him by the Federal High Court, and what next steps to take.

In his words: “The issue is that yes Nnamdi Kanu violated bail conditions, but it is not time yet for him to go back to the court for trial.

“We have this assumption but I think it is left for the court that gave those conditions to determine whether those conditions were violated or not.

“If those conditions were violated, the court knows what to do. We cannot assume that those conditions are being violated.

“Yes the public knows those conditions were given, but the determination of the extent of violation will be left for the court.

“It is not like the police will go after Kanu to arrest him on the grounds that he violated the bail conditions.

“Kanu will have a day in court and the court will determine his fate because it is the court that gave those conditions.”

Recall that We previously reported that barely four days after he was released from prison after meeting bail conditions, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, disobeyed one of the conditions attached to his bail.

The trial Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja said her decision to release Kanu on bail was based on health grounds and stated as part of bail conditions that the Biafra leader must not be in a crowd exceeding 10 persons.
