PDP blasts Bello over country home mansion

PDP blasts Bello over country home mansion

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state, on Tuesday accused the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, of being insensitive to the plight of the people of the state.

The party noted that  “the building of a castle” by Bello, “which he recently commissioned with pomp and pageantry in his home town” was another way of displaying the governor’s insensitivity and nonchalant attitude to the problems facing the people.

A statement by the publicity secretary of the party, Bode Ogunmola, said the party was surprised by the governor’s action and the display of affluence in the midst of poverty by Bello, whose government is owing its workers’ salaries ranging from four to 22 months.

The party said, “By this act, the governor has once again showed to the world that his personal comfort is of more importance to him than the welfare of the people of the state.

We wonder why a government which has continued to under-develop the state by its actions will be so insensitive to the extent of building private estates at the detriment of the welfare of the people of the state.

“The present administration in the state is not only a monumental failure but also a great disappointment to the people of the state. We wish to call on Yahaya Bello to pay workers their salary instead of using the resources of the state to feather his nests.

Workers are hungry and dying while the governor is busy amassing wealth.

But the governor, through his Director General on Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, asked the PDP in the state to stop “clutching at the irrelevant and put its house in order”.

Responding to PDP’s criticism of the Governor’s private house in Okene, Fanwo said the Governor has the right to own a personal house in his home town.

He said PDP should concentrate on bringing its highly “fragmented house together” and leave the Governor out of its “woes”.

“When has it become a sin to own a house? The Governor doesn’t need to Commission his house. He didn’t do so but only went home to celebrate an important festival with his people. Has PDP forgotten how our resources were deployed into building and remodeling hotels in Abuja within a space of 13 years?

“The issue of salaries have been the only item on the tray of the opposition. They are trying hard to conquer the truth. We have done very well in paying salaries and it will get better.

“PDP has refused to tell us what happened to our allocations in the last four months of the last administration as they refused to pay salaries, plunging Kogi workers into excruciating suffering.

“Kogi PDP has not told us why their members were arrested by anti-graft agencies because their leaders allegedly shared the two billion naira that would have empowered thousands of youth. Where is our CBN/SME Loan?”
