Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa state on Monday, April 23, said that both the Senate president, Bukola Saraki and the Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal were not negotiating to defect from All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Vanguard, Governor Badaru stated this while fielding questions from State House correspondents after meeting with the chief of staff to the president at the State House.

He said: “No I don’t think so and I have not heard that rumour and I don’t think there is such negotiation going on.

“It is not true that Tambuwal and Saraki are negotiating with the PDP, we have not heard of that. Some few weeks back there was rumour about the governor of Benue (Governor Samuel Ortom) and he made it clear at our last NEC that he is not moving anywhere.

“Those are rumours flying around but they don’t have consequence. We are united, governor Tambuwal is with us and the distinguished Senator Bukola Saraki, the Senate President is also with APC and we have not had any reason to think that they are negotiating elsewhere, no.”

The Jiwaga state governor also explained that what happened last weekend in the state during the APC rally was not a crisis, rather political shunting by different supporters of the aspirants.

Commenting on the alleged political unrest, he said: “Political unrest, no it is not true. It is normal political shunting. Shunting between groups that are contesting the same position and People passing by.

“Some groups will shunt for their own and others will shunt for another person and that was what happened. That was a great rally. It is normal in every gathering, you have different supporters supporting different people contesting the same position.”

On what should be expected from the forthcoming APC convention, he said: “We expect a peaceful and rancour free and good convention.

“All members are one. They are all united and I am sure the convention will bring everybody together. And in democracy, if you are open and straightforward, things get done well, I don’t think there should be any problem.”

We previously reported that a member of the House of Representatives, Dapo Lam-Adesina, denied speculation that he was planning to defect from the APC to Alliance for Democracy (AD).

Lam-Adesina, made this known to newsmen on the sideline of a fundraising programme organised by the old students association of Baptist Secondary School, Oke-Ado in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that there was wide speculation of possible defection of a group loyal to his late father, former Governor Lam Adesina from the APC.

However, Lam-Adesina said: “I remain a card-carrying member of APC under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and the great Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. We are core progressives in my family.

“I was born into a progressive family and we don’t leave a house that we built for anyone.”
