Leading Senator From Yobe Says APC Is No Better Than The Party It Displaced In 2015

Leading Senator From Yobe Says APC Is No Better Than The Party It Displaced In 2015

A former governor of Yobe State, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, has said that the All Progressives Congress, APC promised to make life better for the people in 2015, but many years on “things have not changed.”

The Senator representing Yobe east, who was marking his 70th birthday at the Barcelona Hotel in Abuja stated that since his party came to power in 2015, “things have not changed, and many things are worse, and Nigerians are very bitter.”

President Muhammadu Buhari, 75, promised to kill corruption and lead the war against insurgency from the front.

But critics say he has failed in both areas as killer herdsmen have become a new threat to security and no new case involving any Politically Exposed Person has led to a conviction in this administration.

Staff at a leading anti-corruption agency say their boss Ibrahim Mustafa Magu has been a stumbling block to the fight against graft.

This comment which was made to DENISAURUS News in 2016, was later confirmed to be true by the Department of State Security Service, DSS, who in an indicting report stated that Mr Magu is a liability to the corruption fight of the administration and must not be confirmed as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Despite the warning from the secret police, the “corrupt” officer remains in office. He has been accused of using the instrument of office to wrongly fight members of the opposition party.

Senator Ibrahim, the chairman Senate committee on Ecology and Climate change, said that “improvements that can guarantee victory such as respecting the rule of law and releasing political prisoners as well as non-selective war against corruption as against one sided witch hunt.

“I shall sit back and continue encouraging my party do the right thing. But if we don’t, I still reserve the capacity to ask my people to go our separate ways and do what must be done for good governance to reign in Nigeria.”

The lawmaker whose wife serves as a minister said the APC should not “assume that we can win even with massive rigging.”

He said: “In fact, the politics of the North East has always been different from the politics of the North West and it was under APC that we all united for the first time.

“As we move towards the elections, I have to give a dire warning to the APC that things are no longer the way they were in 2015 when we road to power on a cloud of euphoria believing that things will change for better.

“The economy has gone down because of our action and inaction and we are blaming the past too much rather than solving the present problems. I am going to give a dire warning. Let the North East not be taken for granted that we must support APC.

“Our interest in the North East has always been progressive and I will personally be watching for required improvements in the APC before the elections. Improvements that can guarantee victory such as respecting the rule of law and releasing political prisoners as well as unselective war against corruption as against one sided witch hunt”.

“Police foils another kidnap attempt of APC Chairman’s son in Borno Simply put, things have not changed, and many things are getting worse and the people are bitter. We should not assume that we can win even with massive rigging.”

Similarly, a senator from Kaduna has also warned that the APC might no longer exist after President Buhari.

Speaking to Channels TV, Shehu Sani said: “Buhari remains the heart, soul and the oxygen of the party. I don’t think after Buhari there can be APC again.”

And he said that with the party being “in a very bad shape,” it is going to be hard for President Buhari to win in 2019.
