The committee’s Vice Chairman, Senator Shehu Sani, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues when officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs defended their 2019 budget proposal, disclosed that the country’s embassies were in deplorable conditions.
He said the nation’s embassy in Russia lacked a functional toilet.

He said findings by the panel indicated that water supply to the country’s embassy located in Moscow had been cut off due to non-payment of accumulated bills.
He said the development had forced the embassy’s members of staff to fetching water from embassies of other countries for use in the toilet.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Mustapha Sulaiman, who led other officials to the budget defence session, said N4bn was approved for his ministry in the 2019 budget.
He explained that the ministry’s 2019 budget proposal was a far cry compared to the N11bn approved for it in the 2018 budget.
He said the development had forced the ministry to allocate funds for 30 out of the 110 embassies and missions abroad.
