The former governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo State Senator Ifeanyi Araraume is aspiring to the Senate in the North District, it was learnt on Wednesday.
The seat became vacant, following the death of Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu last year.
A source said Araraume will contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The governor, Hope Uzodinma, is said to be backing him.

Also in the race are former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, who hails from Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, and a businessman, Senator Nneji Achonu from Mbano council.
Ohakim may contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Araraume was a PDP senator between 1999 and 2007. Although he wanted to ge governor, he was denied the opportunity by top national leaders of the party.
