Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, has condemned the killing of #EndSARS protesters in Nigeria.
Violence broke out in different parts of the country amid the #EndSARS protests which started about two weeks ago. Some persons have been killed and property has also been destroyed.
On Tuesday evening, unarmed protesters were shot at by security operatives at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos, sparking off a global outrage.
Condemning the killings, Welby, in a tweet, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the lives of citizens are protected.
He also commiserated with families that have lost their loved ones in the killings.
“I condemn in the strongest terms the reported deliberate shooting of unarmed protesters in #Lagos and other parts of #Nigeria,” he tweeted.
“I have urged President Muhammadu Buhari directly to ensure that lives are protected – and I say that again now. I mourn for Nigeria. May God save Nigeria.”
