Egypt Set To Deport 7 Nigerians Who Partook In The #EndSARS Protest
As Nigerians abroad partook in the #EndSARS protest, seven Nigerian nationals are on the verge of getting deported from Egypt after partaking in the protest without having residency permit.
In Egypt, 8 citizens of the West African country were arrested for protesting without a permit. They were carrying out the Egyptian leg of the #EndSARS protest.
The Nigerian Embassy in Cairo intervened in order to secure their release, but the Egyptian authorities have since discovered that 7 of them do not have a residency permit and therefore they are going to deport them.
The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa wrote on Twitter;
"Update on the 8 Nigerians detained in Cairo for protesting without a permit 7 of them are to be deported to Nigeria for for lack of resident permits.The only one that has Residency will get final clearance from the Minister of Interior
After signing an undertaking to not go against laws of Egypt. The Nigerian mission in Egypt is still appealing for leniency on behalf of the seven slated for deportation".
