The governor, who was impressed by the gesture, stated that, “Jimoh’s initiative is the first of its kind in the history of Lagos State.”
Speaking through his Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Musliu Folami, Ambode challenged other office holders to emulate Jimoh’s efforts in view of the security challenges facing the country, asserting that, “security issue is a collective responsibility of all.”
Jide Jimoh, who represents Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, distributed hand-held metal detectors to all the mosques, churches, schools and communities within his constituency.
In his remarks on the occasion, Jimoh, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said “the gadgets
will check, to a large extent, illegal entries into our communities, schools and places of worship.”
While stating that prevention is better than cure, the young politician was of the view that taking preemptive measure against crime occurrence was preferable to searching for solution to crimes already committed.
Lagos chapter chairman of the APC, Chief Henry Oladele Ajomole in his goodwill address at the event, commended Jimoh for the initiative, which is in line with APC’s policy.
