Mosquitoes are prevalent in Nigeria and in many other countries around the world.

Although tiny, they cause a lot of harm and kill hundreds of thousands yearly.

Female mosquitoes carry out the biting because they require blood for reproduction.

Even though the blood loss is insignificant to the human victim, the saliva left behind causes an irritating rash and sometimes, the mosquitoes pass on harmful infections to the victims.

Some of the diseases transmitted by mosquitoes are malaria, Zika virus, Yellow fever and Dengue fever.

A documentary by America’s Chemistry Society, shows how mosquitoes use six specialised needles in one bite.
