Ex-VP Atiku speaks on violence between Nigerian Army and Kanu’s supporters, reveals solution to Biafran agitation

Atiku speaks as violence continues between soldiers and Kanu's supporters

- Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has joined those reacting to the violence in Abia state and parts of Rivers

- Atiku wants the violence to stop immediately to allow for dialogue

- He says if any part of Nigeria is in such a situation, the entire country suffers

Former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has finally spoken out concerning the clash between the Nigerian Army and supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Atiku called for restraint on both sides as violence escalates in Abia and parts of Rivers.

The former vice president also called for dialogue as an end to the agitation saying he supported his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on its stand on the issue.

There have been claims and counter claims from both the army and the supporter of IPOB who claimed they have been dehumanized and that some of them had been killed.

"We hear each other better if we speak peacefully. Everyone, please stop escalating the situation. Let us dialogue and listen to each other.

"I appreciate our governors both North and South, for their efforts to maintain calm. Meeting with stakeholders is important and should continue," he said.

We earlier reported how the Nigerian army said it is not directly involved in ongoing operation to restore law and order in Oyibo local government area of Rivers.

Col Aminu Iliyasu, spokesman of the 6 Division of the Nigerian army, Port Harcourt, said this in an interview in Port Harcourt on Thursday, September 14.
