A Nigerian senator, Nelson Effiong, is currently facing an allegation of refusal to repay a $10,000 loan as well as threatening the life of Nsedu Onyile, a United States of America-based woman, and this has prompted an investigation.
The probe into the alleged threat was ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris following a petition by Onyile’s counsel, Dr Emmanuel Eyo, claiming that that Effiong threatened her life over an unpaid debt of $10,000.
According to him, the money was transferred to Effiong on March 18, 2015 from the Bank of America, but when her client needed the refund, Senator Effiong threatened her life through an email.

The Guardian reports the petitioner as quoting the email thus: “I know how and where to get you when you come. We will know who owns the land. There will be no hiding place for you. Just try any nonsense and I will handle you the way you can’t imagine.”
Eyo believes Effiong’s statement threatened the life of his client. He therefore pleaded with the IGP to investigate the matter to save her life.
The report said that Onyile also petitioned the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, twice on the matter but that nothing was heard about it.
In the latest petition to the IGP, Onyile said: “However, information available to us has it that Effiong is boasting that our client does not have the capacity to confront him and that he would use his might to crush any move made by our client.
“We have come to you again and re-present this reminder to notify you of the refusal of Senator Effiong to pay our client the sum of $10,000.”

We learnt that the Idris, through his principal staff officer II, Promise Udeh, asked the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter.
“I forward herewith copy of letter dated June 1, 2017 with its attachment received from AB & Associates on the aforementioned subject and respectfully convey the directives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) that you investigate and report back,” the letter reads.
We earlier reported how a former governor of Niger state, Alhaji Babangida Aliyu, appeared at the Federal High Court, sitting in Minna, on Monday, January 22 over an alleged N2 billion fraud case for which he is being tried before Justice Yalim S Bogoro.
The court however adjourned the case to February 20, 2018. Fondly called the Chief Servant while he was governor, Aliyu is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside his chief of staff, Umar Nasko, on an eight-count charge of abuse of office and money laundering to the tune of N2 billion.
