Breaking: President Buhari sacks Justice Ademola, one other

President Buhari approves sack of Justice Adeniyi Ademola, Tokode

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the recommendations from the National Judicial Council (NJC) for a compulsory retirement of Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Abuja division of the Federal High Court and the dismissal of another judge.

President Buhari also approved the sack of Justice O Tokode of the Benin division of the Federal High Court.

"The disciplinary actions on the two justices are in pursuance of section 292 (1) (b) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

"Justice OO Tokode is also to refund all salaries and allowances earned illegally from 2nd December, 2015 when he was sworn-in as a Judge of the Federal High Court to date.

"The president urges judicial officers to be alive to their responsibilities and eschew corruption in the discharge of their duties," a statement by presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said.

We earlier reported that Adeniyi Ademola, a Federal High Court judge, who was suspended alongside seven other judges following allegations of corruption brought against them by the federal government has been recalled by the National Judicial Council.

Reacting yesterday, chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Professor Itse SAN, said: “It is absolutely wrong to recall a judge whose case is ongoing. ‘’It is wrong for the NJC to have recalled that judge.

"That is just my view. It is wrong because the case is ongoing. The matter has been filed and we don’t know what the outcome is going to be.

"If the outcome is negative for the judge, then he has to leave again, so it does not make sense."
