Why IGP did not spend more than 24 hours in Makurdi, by Arewa youths

Yerima Shettima

Youths from the northern part of the country under the auspices of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), yesterday gave reasons why the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, did not spend more than 24 hours in Makurdi, the Benue state capital, when he was ordered to relocate to the state.

The group, in a statement signed by its National President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima and made available to newsmen in Kaduna, said the IGP might have left the state because of the hostility shown to him and President Muhammadu Buhari during the stakeholders’ forum hosted by Governor Samuel Ortom and the Benue people.

The statement also added that even though the police boss was not in Makurdi, he spent more days at Goma, Logo and Rijiin, all of which were in the same Benue State.

The group therefore charged the president to resist temptation of sanctioning or sacking the police boss, adding that many people were envious of his achievements in the short time he had been in office.

The statement reads in part; “It has come to our notice that certain vested interests in the country are after the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, for selfish reasons.

“We wonder why those trying to set President Buhari against the IGP pretend that there is a difference between Makurdi and Benue. “
