Group Speaks On Obasanjo’s Attack On Buhari, Tinubu, Atiku As Leaders Who Failed Nigeria

The group stated this in a press statement issued to the press and signed by its leader,  Basil Afam Nsofor, stated that the comment made by the former president was surprising because Atiku was included in the list of failed Nigerian leaders.

A pro-Atiku group, Atiku Global Network, has frowned at the speech of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, for saying that some Nigerian leaders including Atiku Abubakar had failed Nigeria.

The group stated this in a press statement issued to the press and signed by its leader,  Basil Afam Nsofor, stated that the comment made by the former president was surprising because Atiku was included in the list of failed Nigerian leaders.

The group cited that Atiku had already won the governorship election in Adamawa in 1999 and was ready to govern his state but Obasanjo believed that Atiku will make a good vice president and Atiku out of “patriotic love for Nigerians” did not reject the offer and he carried out his assignments as vice president assiduously.

Nsofor stated: “It is rather on record that as the Chairman of the National Economic Council, Atiku Abubakar was instrumental to most of the economic feats and achievements of the Obasanjo Administration.

Both the banking reforms, the communication transformations, and the Privatization Programmes of the Obasanjo Government, which remain germane till date, are all attributable to the leadership qualities and transparency of Atiku Abubakar, GCON.”

Nsofor also pointed out that the friction between the former president and his deputy started when Atiku rejected the proposed third term bid of his principal.

He said: “It is true that a major point of disagreements between Atiku Abubakar and his Boss then was when Obasanjo muted the  unconstitutional idea of a third term at the expiration of their  due double tenures, to which Atiku Abubakar could not be party to.

It is also on record that since then Obasanjo had consistently held that as a reason for opposing every personal moves of Atiku Abubakar as a bona-fide citizen of Nigeria.”

The group rather finds it as strange for Atiku to be termed as a failure, whereas, his principal whoom he served, sees himself as the best thing that has happened to the country so far.

It said: “In as much as we feel that Obasanjo is democratically entitled to his opinion, we also put him on notice that his sheer politics of vendetta against Atiku Abubakar has gotten to unbearable levels.

We believe that as a noble statesmen, Obasanjo should know how to guard his mouth and not be seen as a carrier of venomously wrong political judgments and he should know that Atiku Abubakar is a solid and courageous democrat whose track records in the political space of Nigeria can no longer be doubted.

“As a loyal, and patriotic party man and nationalist, Atiku Abubakar had to step down for late MKO Abiola, GCFR, in the then SDP and also had to step down his much prosperous political ambitions for Obasanjo, when in 2003, every political calculations favoured Atiku to have taken over the Presidency from Obasanjo in his second tenure bid.

“It is most unfortunate that somebody who should have passed as the living political father of Atiku Abubakar is the one who would never see anything good about him.”
The group further enjoined the former president from been a clog in the wheel of progress in the 2019 presidential ambition of Atiku calling on him to be cautious with his words since he is regarded as a “father in the present day Nigeria”.

It cautioned: “In the spirit of the new Alliance of 38 political parties with the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, of which the ADC, Obasanjo’s political party, is involved, it is expected that every aspirant in the Alliance should be given a level playing field to participate and prove their mettles.

“By all indications, our man of the moment, Atiku Abubakar, GCON, is a leading hopeful in the campaign and we would not forgive Obasanjo if he constitutes himself as Atiku’s only presidential electioneering problem. “
