Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Wednesday said the South-West was almost going into political oblivion if not for the coming of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
Fayemi said the Buhari administration, through concentration of “juicy appointments” in the South-West, redressed the trend of neglect that the zone suffered under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The governor, who spoke in Ado Ekiti while playing host to the leadership of Artisans, Traders and Allied Technicians’ Association, Ekiti Chapter, said the February 2019 election would present an opportunity for the zone to reciprocate Buhari’s gesture by re-electing him.

He said, “Under President Jonathan, we saw how the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the minister of finance, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and Chief of Staff to the President among others were all concentrated in just two zones in the South while the South-West was abandoned.
“But when President Buhari came on board, he made a South-West person his Vice-President; the Minister of Works, Power and Housing is from this zone. The Minister of Health and other juicy positions were also allotted to the region.
“So, the coming election is for the liberation of the Yoruba race and only Buhari’s Presidency can bring about the actualisation of this dream.”
The leader of the delegation, Mr. Ebenezar Fadipe, presented a letter in which his members adopted Buhari for the 2019 election to Fayemi for onward delivery to the President.
Fadipe said their decision was taken based on the President’s achievements and the anti-corruption war.
He said, ”We are particularly elated and impressed with the laudable achievements of Mr. President in the anti-graft war which is being prosecuted zealously.
