The South Eastern Governors Forum has on Sunday 24th May 2020 unequivocally rejected the Community Policing Formula and Mechanism presented to them by the Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu
The governors forum had jointly declared that the South East Zone would not implement the community policing template rolled out by the police chief.
The declaration was contained in a communiqué presented by the zone after their enlarged meeting in Enugu.
The communiqué was read by the Ebonyi state governor, Chief David Umahi who was also the chairman of the Forum.

According to the information made available to 9News Nigeria, there were Governors and other eminent personalities from the South Eastern Nigeria present at the meeting.
Those present at the meeting included Governor David Umahi of Eboyi state, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state, Deputy Governor of Anambra state and Deputy governor of Abia States.
Apart from incumbent governors present, other people were Chief John Nnia Nwodo, the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo home and abroad,, former Governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwodo, Igbo leader, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and finally, Chair-person of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Southeast Chapter, Bishop Godwin Okafor..
They accused the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Adamu Abubakar of going contrary to the earlier agreement they reached on the matter.
“The recent communication from the Inspector General of Police to our governors on community policing composition is not in keeping with the agreement we reached with him during his last visit to the South-East.
“In the circumstance, we cannot begin implementation of it until the programme reflects our earlier agreement.
“The South-East Governors and their leaders request the IGP to revert to our initial agreement reached on community policing at Enugu,” the governors said.
