Ibrahim Mustafa Magu was recently removed following an indictment on corruption made against him by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
Mr Magu, 58, the only person whose nomination as substantive chairman was rejected by lawmakers, failed to account for assets recovered during his watch.
The 58-year-old Borno born Police Commissioner, whose promotion was first published by DENISAURUS News, who remains in custody, has been told to hand over to the most senior officer in the agency.
Mohammed Umar, the Director of Operations a known adversary to the suspended Mr Magu has now taken over. Sources say that he would not be in acting position for too long.
This fact has left many including the FCT Police Commissioner, Mr Ciroma, already jostling for the vacant position.

Mr Ciroma is now deploying the same media tactics as the removed immediate boss of the agency.
According to the source, “the news spreading about Mr Ciroma taking over the agency is an attempt by the FCT Police Commissioner to plant himself into the minds of the people and gain the attention of those in the Villa, so that he may be seen as a preferred candidate.”
But the staff warned that “Mr Ciroma would be worse than Mr Magu and he must not be considered.”
